OMG - it's looking like the Led Zeppelin tour might actually happen!!!
Page and Jones already said they were up for it - the hold-out being Robert Plant (mainly because his latest album with Allison Krauss is doing well and getting great reviews).

Led Zeppelin returns amid hype, nostalgia
Legendary rockers to play first full set together in nearly 30 years

LONDON - Led Zeppelin fans from around the world descended Monday on London to see the legendary rock 'n' roll band perform a full set for the first time in nearly three decades.

Led by its three surviving members — singer Robert Plant, guitarist Jimmy Page and bassist-keyboardist John Paul Jones — Led Zeppelin will be joined by the late John Bonham's son Jason on drums for the benefit show Monday at the O2 Arena.

<<<snip>>>

Plant, who recently released a successful album with bluegrass star Alison Krauss, did give an indication that this may not be the last of Led Zeppelin, however.

"It wouldn't be such a bad idea to play together from time to time," Plant added.

1. I can understand Plant's reluctance
His voice isn't nearly as powerful as it once was. Singing folk and bluegrass with Alison Krauss is one thing; trying to shriek one's way through 3-hours of Led Zeppelin at age 59 is another.

4. Page already fixed that problem
Edited on Mon Dec-10-07 01:58 PM by LynneSin
Page rewrote most of the Zeppelin songs down a few octaves to accommodate Plant's voice. That story came out a few weeks ago

BTW - I last saw Plant 2 years ago at SXSW - he did "Whole Lotta Love" which totally shocked me. First because that's a total Jimmy Page song with the major guitar solo but also because that's one of the most notorious "Baby Baby Baby" Plant screeching songs.

He sounded amazing - but it was definitely a new version of "Whole Lotta Love"

I think the biggest shock out of this concert will be that Led Zeppelin ain't gonna sound like LZ of the 70s. Jason does NOT drum exactly like his Dad and Plant clearly cannot hit the notes the way he could. But Page is such a tactician that he's already figured this all out!

6. Rush did the same thing on the last tour
about the 4th song into the set, my friend turns to me and says "why does this sound different?"
"because they took it down a fourth"
"Oh"

7. I so wanted to see Rush in concert but couldn't work it into my schedule
On the day coming home from Live Earth I was going to drive by the PNC center where Rush was playing that day and convince my friend to go, but then she found out that morning that a close family member died.

33. I do believe Eddie did some of the same for Dave, this tour.
We went to the first two shows.
That WAS worth it, because they gave their all on the first show. The second was shorter, and down a foruth on a couple songs. I appreciated it because I am sure Dave didn't want to ruin himself for the rest of the tour. Also, the two dates were two days apart, so that had to be hard.

17. You know what I mean
:grr:

Main thing is Page lowered the songs - he has too unless he plans to embarass the band and Plant. And Plant is smart enough to not sing unless the music is fixed. He's been doing Zep songs during all of his solo tours - but rearranged to fit his vocals.

28. Hell, Plant couldn't hit the high notes in '73...
...as his monotone singing on "Over the Hills" indicates, from the boots to the latest official release. But rthe band adapted and played great shows in '75, '77, '79 and '80. The genius of Jimmy Page is that he can make it work. John Paul Jones as well. Plant is still a fearsome vocalist (saw him last year), and Jason is a great drummer. The only one for the band.

Ages 59 to 63 (plus Jason at 41)? They can still bring it. I hope they tour.

5. Led Zeppelin not do LA? Hell I'll fly out there to see them in LA
If LZ only does 2 cities it should be NYC and LA - those cities defined Led Zeppelin. The Collesium and Madison Square Garden

18. Wasn't "How The West Was Won" recorded in Long Beach?
Hell, if they come to LA, they should hit all the big venues - the Forum, Staples, the Colisseum, the Rose Bowl, Honda Center, Long Beach Arena, and Irvine Meadows. I would certainly go to at least several of the shows.

10. Songs played at soundcheck (SPOILERS)
According to the official forum and NME, the following songs were played at soundcheck:

Good Times/Bad Times
Ramble On
In My Time Of Dying
No Quarter
Nobody's Fault But Mine

I've also read that they rehearsed something off "Presence" they've never played live before, but I don't remember what it was.

15. I think San Francisco would be a fitting place for one of their
tour stops, either the beginning or end, since it was Bill Graham who brought them to the states for the first time.

But, if they tour, and they go to either Chicago, St. Louis, K.C., Dallas or Denver, then my son and I will definitely be there. Damn the cost.

21. I've heard Page mention it too
I mean, Page & Jones have been successful but more behind the scenes. Plant is really the only one that has had some form of successful solo career. But if they don't do it now it will never happen. These guys aren't getting any younger

And missed Rush too dammit! I need to catch them the next time they are in town. I've seen Plant several times in concert and I saw the The Firm with Page but obviously I have never seen Page, Plant and Jones together. Speaking of Jones, man was that guy underrated! He is an awesome musician!

23. XM Radio created a station just for LynneSin
XM LED

Channel 059

All Led Zeppelin, all the time, though it does dip into their solo work, as well. Nothing else, 24 hours a day.

I've also heard that Plant is planning to tour with Kraus. I saw a video for one of their new songs.

35. Very true BUT
it also has all the music that I love on it PLUS...

Based on the price of the IPOD vs. Satellite Radio.

First I have to buy the equipement for Satellite Radio and the monthly Subscription runs about $12-$15/a month. So really we're looking at about 1-2 years of Satellite equals the cost of the iPod.

BUT - my iPod is portable. I can take it with me to work, home or in my car. Satellite you have to buy upgraded equipment if you want that portability and those things rival the cost of an iPod. Plus, I'll never EVER be able to choose the music I want to hear on Satellite whereas the exact music I want to hear is on my iPod.

I'll stick with the iPod.

Led Zeppelin denied it - suggested it might be Limp Bizkit.

Pretty much I think the Cult just talked their way out of being opening act. History has always showed that fucking around with Jimmy Page will put you out in the cold
