1. I must admit
lice would be equally nasty.

Lice you can buy a kit to get rid of while you have to wait for the road crews to clean the ice.

I'm not quite sure at this time which is worse.

2. Yah, I know
I have lived in the Nort land, so I know of what you speak.

Frankly that is one of the very few things I do NOT miss by living in southern California.

4. But they are better prepared in the North
(I'm originally from WI)

They know how to actually plow a road, compared to here in MO. And truthfully, we get more ice storms here then in the Northlands. We just got our good snows up there instead.

7. Yah.
Uff Da. I remember when I lived in MN, every winter, when an ice (or snow) storm would hit places not accustomed to them, they would show video clips of folks trying to drive around, and we would literally howl about it.

Funny thing here, even though I know how to drive in ice and snow, I am not allowed to go up into the mountains at this time of year because I do not own a set of tire chains...I don' need no stinkin' chains....

8. I've never owned chains
and I'll be surprised if I ever do.

If you learn to drive in the north you don't really need them, unless it's an absolute life-or-death emergency.

9. I know, but it is the LAW here.
They stop you at the beginning of mountain passes and if you do not have a 4wd WITH snow tires, they make you either chain up or turn around.

Showing my old MN drivers license is not enough for them.

10. A few stupid drivers
ruin it for those who actually know what to do.

Doesn't that just stink?!

12. Yes. it does.
But California is probably one of the biggest nanny states there is.
