1. I was surprised when I went there about 15 years ago
how incredibly poorly made their furniture was. It was a real eye opener. Given their prices, I really expected it to be of better quality.

2. Yeah.
Amazing they have been in business long enough to go out of business at least three times that I can remember.

3. Here, Haynes Furniture has a 'lowest prices of the year'
sale every three weeks.

Again, their furniture isn't the best, but some of it does the job quite nicely.

4. I have obtained some nice pieces at Wickes Furniture.
Including my dining room set.

Wickes is always having some gimmicky sale thing...like no sales tax, or buy the 5 piece dining set and get two chairs for free or some such...

Quality is definitely middle of the road, but we are middle of the road type people... ;)

8. I have found that upholstered furniture has a set shelf life
regardless of cost. Which is why I buy the least expensive pieces that fit what I am doing.

I figure the dog will destroy the $500 in about as much time as the $3000 sofa.

6. The bigger question is "how do they get to file for bankruptcy restructuring every 3 years
Edited on Sun Dec-09-07 03:06 PM by KitchenWitch
when individuals and families can only do it every 10?"

x(

edited to close quotation.

10. I guess it has something to do with...
the government having no problem with corporate welfare...but when it's given to an individual they are just trying to "scam" the system. Or simply put...they hate poor people

7. What amazes me is how Jordan's stays in biz
they're a New England brand, but their stuff is 90% particle board with some fake wood finish glued on.

Their overhead must be incredible because all their stores are theme parks, some with Imax theatres.

I was thinking the same thing when I read in GD that they were going out of business.

I thought to myself..."AGAIN??" :wtf:

I think I still hear their ads on TV! "You'll love it at Levitz!" :puke:

It's the AD song from hell!!

11. Crazy.
Weird thing is...this is kind of longish...

Three years ago when I still lived in Minnesota, Levitz did one of their "going out of bidness" sales. And they truly did close all their stores (I thought, they only closed their Minnesota stores).

Flash forward a year and a half, and I have moved to SoCal, and I see that Levitz is still operating here (truly a WTF moment for me). I am like, okay, so they did NOT go out of business.

About 6 months ago, someone from Minnesota told me that Wickes was going out of business, and I said that Wickes was still going strong here....Now Levitz here is going out of business...

Weird.
