1. never on the West coast I haven't
I take Amtrak once or twice a year, around VA and sometimes up to Pennsylvania and NYC. Last time was almost a month ago, I went from Alexandria VA to Norfolk, one way (I was driven back home a few days later) It was $39 and I got there faster than I could have on the highways.
Amtrak rocks I think :headbang:

Had a "roomette" all the meals were included in the travel price(except alchohol). The trip was really nice and relaxing, tho The train ran late they said due to frieght traffic, but if you are on vacation it is just more sights to see. I would definately use Amtrak again.

No complaints. Better than flying, fwiw. I had two seats all to myself, which is prime real estate for us CIty folk. Each row had an outlet, so I was able to watch DVDs without my laptop running out of power.

5. I *wish* I could take Amtrak
:grr: The easiest way to pull this move to Canada would be to put all our stuff and ourselves on a train, but apparently there's no way to get to anywhere from Houston, unless it's Galveston.

Rail system my ass. :(

8. you can go to LA or florida via a direct train
or points north and east via private charter bus that connects in longview.

new orleans used to be a transfer point for points north too.

i've taken the houston to chicago trip on amtrak many, many times.

9. Is AMTRAK missing again? You'd think they could keep up with
it, being on those rails and all.

11. I love Amtrak and prefer it to riding with someone
in a car (I don't have a car). If you get lucky the train will have outlets!!

Nice and relaxing and if you pay extra you can ride business class and be even MORE comfortable!
