Is it poor cyber etiquette to make an OP and then go out for the entire day, without being able
to answer anyone for hours?

1. are you here to answer?
;-)

I think it's a bit weird, unless you say you have to leave and will check back in. Sometimes things come up, of course, and you can't monitor your thread, but - if I'm going to do an OP asking for information or advice or whatever, I do try to stick around for a bit. If it's just a one-off comment, or a joke, or something similar, though, I don't think the OP needs to monitor the thread.

6. Depends on how much of a blatant and unrepentant TEASE the original poster is.
It's a sliding scale, like everything else in life.

In SOME situations, I'd say that making an OP and heading off to work or the mall or rehab or whatever the original poster does with their day constitutes nothing less than a severe bipolar tendency to cut and run (although not the same kind of cut and run as those who want to derail the good work that the "Surge" is producing).

In OTHER situations, maybe making the OP and heading off to work or the mall or rehab or whatever is a clear signal and a cry for help, an indication that the original poster has run spell check on their post and maybe added a graphic or a smiley or stretched the question across the subject line and the body of the thread itself and thought "No one's going to reply to this unless I take drastic measures"...

But then again...

HEY! Wait just one MINUTE, HUHOP! I took the bait...AGAIN!

:spank:

12. WAS gone (past tense). As in...I'm ba-a-a-a-a-a-a-ck!!!
And if my opinions are not wanted by you, then... well, then...
your mother wears orthopaedic prostheses in her lace-up shoes!

(At first, when I saw that adorable little smiley guy with the flowers, fixing his hair
as he waits at the door, I thought, "Awwwwwww..........".
Then I saw the guy ROFL.
Now just watch your back, Amerigo. I'd be very careful, if I were you. And I mean it,
or my name is not H.U.H.O.P.)

11. I don't think it is, but I am sure others would differ with my opinion.
I sometimes do drive-by posts.

and logged on with new mail and such...I don't know if you could consider it poor etiquette ( maybe a bit too far ). I have stepped away for an hour, and sometimes several...but always try to respond to my responses. ( that is part of my etiquette ). And sometimes....you just forget

16. Nah, life happens.
I would never expect someone to sit and wait for me or my slow dial-up.

Besides, I think many OP'rs might be multitasking. I sure am. I rarely sit at my desk for long periods. In fact, I'm baking and doing laundry right now.

The new features that the Admins. are working on should help a lot. We will be able to keep track of and continue conversations without threads expiring!

Not on purpose.

19. Maybe.
If you post something contentious or inflammatory, then take off for a day and a half without even stopping back to answer questions, it could be perceived as somewhat rude.

If you post a copycat thread in the Lounge and then take off for a day and a half without even stopping back to view the replies, no one will likely give a rat's pazzu.

23. I never post anything inflammatory. I might post something about taking
anti-inflammatories, but that's as close as I'll get.

20. If so, then I am guilty as well
I sometimes think of something to post but don't do it until late at night. Then I have to go to bed before there may be responses.

24. But if it's time for bed for you, chances are a lot of other people are nodding off, as well,
so I don't think it's a problem.
