 the surgery recovery hurts way more than the http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=105&topic_id=7185721">injury
I couldn't sleep last night because it hurt so much. And no one is in the Dr's office today, so I had to leave a message and hope for the best. I don't know how you folks with chronic pain do it...

8. Zornhau, see if you can get the
doctor on call.

Ask him/her if it's OK for you to take another 1/2 tablet.
if you are taking the 500mgs. right now.

That's the dosage for one tablet of Vicodin ES.

It makes a difference, and may help you right now.

I hope you get relief soon!

12. Last night I took 2
when I was really hurting, but it didn't really seem to help the pain that much, just make me woozy :( That just seems to be how the vicodin is for me I still hurt quite a bit all the time I've been on it.

11. An idea when you get ahold of the docs...
Vicodin has Tylenol, so you can't take too much of that (4 grams a day max of Tylenol), but sometimes they can prescribe a narcotic by itself for pain relief (oxycodone maybe) for additional breakthrough pain. You're a young guy on the bigger side and you may need a larger dose than the standard. My only other suggestion is ice. I'm sorry you're feeling so lousy. That sucks. :(

13. thanks for the advice
I tend to have a high painkiller tolerance anyway, so yea. I know I'm pushing it with the tylenol, I've been itchy after the double doses and drinking dandelion tea (helps liver function) has helped that. thanks for the kind thoughts

of a 10/500 oxycodone in the morning and the other half in the evening. The 500 is acetaminophen aka Tylenol.

On edit: I was wrong, it's hydrocodone (Lortab) which is the same as Vicodin.

27. Being a nurse I can tell ya
bone pain is severe, BUT...will start feeling better in about 7 - 10 days. In the meantime...call the doctor on call ( there HAS to be someone on call) and have your pharmacy # at hand and tell him you need help sleeping. He/she can prescribe a sleeping aid to get you through the first week or so. My daughter had a plate fused in her neck for a herniated disc 5 weeks ago. The first week was terrible until she got something to help her sleep. Pain always gets worse at night...good luck sweetie. You will get through this.

32. If "alternative" medicine is something you are willing to try,
see if you can find any Arnica Montana as it's good for relieving the bruising. It's homeopathic, so I know not everyone agrees with that. My past-wife used it very successfully when she stubbed a toe hard enough to break it.

33. Thanks for the vibes, everybody...
We ended up going to the ER because of the itching and irregular heartbeat/chest tightness he was having. Doc said that it was probably as much the stress and pain as the Vicodin. They gave him a shot of morphine, which helped a lot, and sent him home with a script for Percocet. So, naptime it is...

I ended up making another run to CVS, as Percocet was causing the same kind of reaction. Now we'll have a go with Darvocet w/APAP, see if that's a less-pain and no-itching alternative. Cross your fingers? :hi:

isn't nearly as good as morphine. It's not as strong, and it causes a bit more of a high (which I don't like). But I hope it's enough to let you sleep.

48. Sorry for the pain.
I know that sometimes if I let something get too painful before breaking down and taking the pain meds, it's really hard for the meds to work effectively. When I had a broken leg, in the hospital they were giving me the high powered pain meds every four hours with tylenol every two to keep the pain relief going. But ask your doctor!

Hope you feel better soon! :hi:
