Poll question: What kind of job do you do when cleaning snow off your car
First snow of the season and it was about 2-3 inches on the car.

I got up early to warm up my car while I scraped off just about all of the snow and also shovel my sidewalks.

As usual, there were people driving to work with their rear windows totally covered and nothing more than a small scope cleared out of the front window. I think those people should be banned from ever owning cars and driving.

What kind of job do you do with cleaning snow off of your car?

1. I clean all the window and headlights.
I get most of it off the trunk and hood in case I have to get in either one. I very rarely clear the roof.

My last car didn't hold any windshield washing fluid so the snow on the roof was my friend as it started to melt.

2. Depends if a house is burning or not
I recall a house fire during a snowstorm when I did the head out the window thing. But I lived next door to the firehouse so it wasn't far to go and nobody was on the road.

Otherwise it's all windows, lights, markerplates, roof, hood, trunk.

4. Then there are the morans in SUV's who will not clean the top of their vehicle.
Edited on Thu Dec-06-07 10:38 AM by madinmaryland
They drive down the highway at 70 mph and a big chuck of frozen snow finally flies off the top of their vehicle. Rabrrrrr had a post yesterday about getting hit by one of those chunks!

There oughta be a law!! :grr:

 Now the toll takers should be fining those idiots when they pass through!

If you're lazy to clean the fricking snow off the top of your SUV then perhaps your SUV should be confiscated for a Yugo

10. That's who it was!
But, but, the owners are 5' tall soccer moms who can't reach the roof! Besides they wouldn't want to get their real fur jacket covered with road grime! :sarcasm:

14. Saw one of those yesterday. Not only was her SUV covered in snow, but she was
taking a turn on an unplowed side street while yapping into her cell phone (no, not a blue tooth, an actually phone in her hand). Snow/ice was flying everywhere, she was fishtailing and almost side-wiped a parked car. Still never got off her phone though. Fucking moran.

5. I clean the entire car
Including the roof, hood, and headlights. And I always make sure my brake light is visible.

I have been blinded by too many d--n drivers who only clear the windshield and leave the snow on top to fly off onto my car.

6. I scrape a small hole out with a cassette tape case.
If there's time, I use the windshield fluid in copious
amounts to clear the rest.

But I still clear off the entire window

9. i clean the windows (front back and sides), headlights, roof, and hood
well, i did clean it that way when i lived in Toledo. 8-10 inches of snow sitting on your hood is going to blow off somewhere, and it generally happened to blow off on the windshield.

22. We don't really get snow.
Once a decade or so we get a few flakes that don't stick.

Here if you want snow you drive two hours into the mountains, then drive back when you've had your fill.

13. I clean off everything that might fly off and hit someone else behind me. It's common
courtesy not to mention a safety issue. I can't stand being behind people who can't manage that much.

17. If there is snow I don't drive.
I am a former resident of the Rochester, N.Y. area but have gotten rusty in my snow driving skills. I also live in an area where most people feel obligated to crash into your car the minute it starts snowing.
I stay at home if it is snowing.

24. On the extremely rare occasions we actually get enough snow to scrape off the cars,
I make sure I get all the snow off the entire car before I drive it. I've seen too many idiots scrape little holes in the snow on the windshield and then hope for the best. They ALWAYS throw snow off that hits other cars, and my car has been hit many times by big sheets of ice flying off car roofs. :(

29. When I lived where it snowed
and my car was outside, I always kept a folding ice scraper/snow brush combo handy. I would sweep off all the snow because I hated it when it flew back at me while driving, and knowing that happened, also didn't want to be flinging snow at other cars.

30. Every bit of snow/ice from all windows and mirrors
and as much of the roof as I can reach with my soft, synthetic broom. I don't like snow falling off roof onto windows while I drive.

35. After last year, I'll NEVER leave snow on my car again.
Twice last year we had snows followed by freezing rain that left the accumulation glued to the cars in the area. As I drove, figuring what was stuck on the car would be stuck until the weather warmed up, I saw car after car on the side of the Beltway with smashed windshields. The real wake-up was when I found myself dodging enormous slabs of ice that came flying off trucks.

I got off the Beltway as quickly as possible, and proceeded to clean my car off completely. What a nightmare!
