I Can't Find My Passport.
It was "expired" annway. No big deal, right? I just go to the Post Office and get a new one, right?

1. Yeah. Just report your old passport lost (even though it was expired) when you do.
There's no penalty or anything for losing a passport (other than having to get a new one).

2. Uh, as a recent veteran of the Great American Passport Fiasco of 2007
I can tell you that you have to either submit a passport issued within the past 15 years or an official birth certificate to get a passport.

All you can do at the post office is pick up the forms. Mail them in with your photos and documents and wait six weeks or more.

If you want a same-day passport, you have to pick up your photos, make an appointment by phone, and go to one of the national passport centers around the country in person.

I hope you aren't planning to fly out of the country tomorrow or anything.

4. No. Thank Goodness.
Now, I have to find my birth certificate! It is probably in the same place as my passport! Whereever that is.

7. And I'm sure it'll have to be a real, certified birth certificate too.
I just tried to exchange my FL driver's liscense for a NY one, and I needed a birth certificate... the only one I have is a photocopy. So that's not good enough for them. I had to send away to my home state to get one. Gods only know how long it'll take to get to me. :\ And I had to pay money to do it too. I coulda saved myself six bucks and sent my brother to pick it up there (he just moved back to the state we were born in, and he's only 30 miles from their office), but I figured with gas prices, a 30 mile round trip was probably equal to the extra charge to get it mailed to me, and it would take gods only know how much of my brother's rather valuable time. And since I finally got my renewed FL liscense in the mail I'm not in any hurry anymore.

3. Not quite that easy anymore...
It may take a while ...there's a backlog now, with the new laws.

6. Yeah, I thought they were getting caught up.
I heard that from somewhere. Maybe, I dreamed it.

10. I threw my passport in the dumpster the night before I was to go to Canada
Never did dumpster diving before - but boy that was an experience. I took 2 showers that night and one again the next morning.

But I found my passport

12. Well I wouldn't have bothred for an expired passport or....
...if my flight for Canada wasn't leaving the next morning (Damn those new passport laws - it was just fricking Canada).

Fortunately it was near the top of the dumpster and I knew I tossed it in a Happy Harry's bag (local Delaware Pharmacy). But I guess everyone uses their Happy Harry's bags for garbage.
