I can hear all this shit LOUD on the far end of my house, with all the doors and windows closed and my own TV on. Need I mention that they have horrible taste in music and a shitty dj? I can't hear myself think.

Should I call the cops (I doubt they give a shit before ten) or go ahead and get the garden hose out?

1. Have them move the party to MN. It';s 20 degrees out with freezing rain.
On top of 6" snow.

3. 4 degrees where I am
That usually brings the noise inside ;)

To OP: Call police ONLY if the noise keeps up into very late hours. Otherwise, everybody wastes time and gets pissy.

Some communities have a specific time when things are to quiet down. Find out what that is and don't make a fuss prior to that time. I have found that just going over and nicely pointing out the late hour and asking for some consideration usually does the trick.

7. We have a lot of old people and families with young kids in this area
If they keep either one awake until ten (the earliest the law might care) they are assholes.

8. Language issue.
Anyhow, my kid and I had a long day, and it's late. If I have to go outside to deal with this shit, I'm using the hose.

I lived next door to a Mexican family. They had HUGE parties at times. Somehow we were always able to communicate the simple things like that without calling the police or resorting to antics such as "hosing" them. I'd bet a dollar that there's at least one English-speaking person over there.

Call me crazy, but I'm kinda bothered that so many of us would rather call dispatch and give a "report" to a cop who will go ask them to turn it down when they could just as easily do the same. I remember when every neighborhood squabble didn't need police intervention. We used to talk to each other.

12. Nah, they're not Mexican. I could mangle enough spanish to get the idea accross.
They're Southeast Asian, but I think something other than Vietnamese (the school I went to was about half Vietnamese- I don't know a word of it but I know it when I hear it.) I'm not going to walk around the block (their house is one of the ones behind mine) to see if anybody will answer the door and 'fess up to knowing any English. It's cold and dark and my kid's in his night clothes.

22. Wow, half the student body was Vietnamese and you didn't learn a word of it?
I would have soaked that up like a sponge. One of my sisters married into a Vietnamese family. The culture is rich and fascinating. And, as you are witnessing, they celebrate with fervor.

Well, involve the police if you must. I'm sure they have nothing better to do. Or hose 'em if that makes you feel better.

24. Everybody I knew spoke good English. The kids who didn't had their own classes.
Anyhow, I have no facility with languages, which is why I took German instead of Spanish- much less useful, but so easy even I could manage it

I fail to see how my inability to speak Vietnamese has anything to do with anything. As I said, this family is some other sort of southeast asian. Hell if I know what, I can barely keep track of the families on my own street.

20. Without warning
you're just going to spray them with a hose. It's not like you've made *any* attempt to deal with the situation.

How would they even know that they are bothering you if you don't speak up?

So, do you spray your other neighbors with the hose if they do something you don't like?

If it were barking dogs, would you spray them with a hose or would you try to deal with it in a more humane manner?

9. people really should keep their noise to themselves
Edited on Sat Dec-01-07 10:43 PM by MissMillie
I used to have neighbors like that

one sunday afternoon, as I was sitting in my tv room, windows closed trying to watch/listen to the baseball game and all I could hear was the base to their stereo.

So, I burned a CD of music I was sure they wouldn't like and I went outside and started to clean my car, w/ these CD in the stereo and all the doors to the car open.

They didn't think too much of Barbara Streisand's "Memory" or The Three Tenors singing "Shenandoah"

They closed their windows.

15. Might I suggest The Paul Winter Consort?
The album "Canyon" puts me to sleep in minutes.

Take it over there, load it in their CD player, and tomorrow you'll be complaining about strangers sleeping in your lawn.

:argh:

I liked him the first time I saw him in concert (at the Earth Mass). Each subsequent viewing of him made me less a fan, since whatever the concert was, and no matter what the songs were titled, it was always the same tune and rhythm and harmonic "world music" structure.

It's like he got the cushy job of musician in residence at the Cathedral and said "Whew. Now I don't have to try any more."

13. Call the cops. That way you will start a record of complaint with the police department
for the neighbors for when you have to call the cops on them again and again and again and can finally say "Look, this is the tenth time, its on record..." when you sue them or initiate other legal action against them.

Considering the advice you've gotten here.

Handle it myself, regardless of what might happen in the future. Better just to make a call, then go all "die harder than Bruce Willis" on em.

That godawful Celine Deion song from Titanic.

I don't believe in the death penalty, but for her I might make an exception, because nobody should inflict that on the world and live.

...I like they way it curves around the upper shoulder. Looks good...

Good tattoo artist know their trade. I wanted one of mine at a particular place on my upper arm, and he showed me how, if he placed it in a certain area, it would accentuate the tattoo better. He was right.
