1. Helps me keep track of my friend's journals

It also helps quicken the PM process if one of my buddies has not posted in awhile.

A third use is to keep track of who I suspect to be trolls.

It enables you to send PMs to people without having to search for a post by them. That is the only purpose I know of for it.

for adding them to my buddy list.
Except I hadn't.
I looked at it and there was another person on it.
Have no idea how they got there.

to their buddy list. So whoever sent you that PM was up to something.

The buddy list is just a list of people you like!

I use mine to send PM's to ...

Sometimes it's easier to find your friend on the buddy list than it is finding a thread of theirs so you can send a PM!

9. I don't believe there's any way to know...

When I joined, I was told about getting an email that would tell me when someone added me to their buddy list...

Much like the email you get when you receive a PM...

But I've never gotten a buddy list notification email...:shrug:

Well I just got and email notification from DU about PM in my inbox and it was a nice person thanking me for adding them to my buddy list.

But you won't get an email letting you know you've been added to someone's buddy list...
