The goth band March Violets, circa 1982. Note the dark tone of the guy's voice before and after the song, and compare it to the crisp vocals in the middle. I know that they use drum machine, but it sounds like he's singing along with the record. (If I wanted to get geeky, I could record the song off the record, align it with the audio in this video, and do a phase cancellation to see what remains, aside from EQ differences).

Bummer if so. What do you think? I'll still like their music, but am disappointed. I'd be pissed if I'd paid to see that live.
