Poll question: Best Coen Brothers Film?
Just saw "No Country for Old Men" and would have to go with that one. Awesome film. Highly recommended.

1. My dear Merrick!
Well, since I haven't seen "No Country for Old Men" yet, I have to go with "Blood Simple."

It was amazing...

I'm looking forward to seeing your choice soon!

I'll see it on DVD...

:hi:

2. Blood Simple has one of the best last lines in a movie as well.
I won't spoil it for those who haven't seen it, but you know what I'm talking about. :hi:

7. You're killing me....
Not only are Fargo and The Big Lebowski my top two Coen brothers movies, they are also my top two movies period. I can't decide for the life of me which one is the greatest. So I guess I'll say this:

Fargo: Best Coen brothers movie
The Big Lebowski: Favorite Coen brothers movie

Blood Simple, Raising Arizona, and O Brother Where Art Thou are also great ones.

Miller's Crossing, Hudsucker Proxy and Barton Fink were good but are probably on the second tier.

I was a little disappointed with The Man Who Wasn't There and The Ladykillers (also a Coen bros film)--they didn't seem up to the same standards.

I've heard great things about No Country for Old Men--I can't wait to see it. Hopefully it will rank up in the top tier.

8. Still "Miller's Crossing" for me
With "The Big Lebowski" coming up close behind.

Really sharp literary-pulp dialog, great sets, great music, and a really twisty complicated plot that holds together much better than most really complicated plots do. Some terrific performances (as in Lebowski, John Tutturo totally steals the show with about 10 minutes screen time), and a bunch of firsts for Coen regulars (Polito, Tutturo, Buscemi). It's the best shot of their movies before they started working with Roger Deakins too.

As for "No Country...," I thought it was great. I was really impressed that they stayed true to the novel's ending. Anyone else would have gone for either of the two more obvious "cinematic" resolutions. Nice to see someone finally do Cormac McCarthy justice. Here's to hoping that nobody films "Blood Meridian" until they figure out a way to resurrect Sam Peckinpaugh.

9. I have a soft spot for Hudsucker Proxy
I think it's underrated, and is another one that needs multiple viewings to really appreciate.

11. All are good
I especially like "O Brother
Where Art Thou" simply because
it is the story of Homer's odyssey
told in a more modern setting.
