5. Remote. Sometimes "clicker."
It's funny that you ask about this because I was watching "Everybody Loves Raymond" the other day, and one of their ads during the commercial has Peter Boyle saying, "put that flipper down . . . 'Everybody Loves Raymond' will be right back!" It made me wonder how many people actually call it a flipper - I think one of my uncles does.

8. I wonder if it has anything to do
with how old you are--I'm of the generation that used to have to get up and change the channel manually, and I call it the "remote." If someone never had that dubious enjoyment (getting exercise switching channels), they might have a different name for it. ;)

63. I would think that the older a person is...
...the more likely he or she is to call it a clicker.

The first remote I had, way back in the ancient 1960's, made a clicking noise.

They don't do that anymore.

Either way, I call it a remote.

And most of the time, I can't even recall THAT name, so I hold my hand up, as if I'm holding it and pushing the channel button, and say, "May I have the....."

I do the same thing with scissors. For some reason, that word seems to get stuck in the back of my mind, so I make a scissors motion when asking MrSG if he knows where they are.

We say remote (sometimes "mo") usually but clicker sometimes. Funny the garage door remote is always called a clicker. My kids look at me gobsmacked when I tell them that we didn't have remote controls when I was a kid, that WE were my dad's remotes. He'd literally holler from the next room to have us come in and change the channel. Yeah that's lazy but the thought of it makes me grin. Surely we weren't the only kids who served as remote controls :)

67. I think that's why
I'm so myopic: I used to sit on the floor very close to the TV itself so I didn't have to go very far to change the channels. By the time the remote control was available, I was already pretty near-sighted!
