42. You know the old urban legend about lefties dying younger than righties?
I just finished running a statistical regression using a sample of 950 lefties versus 950 rights and the average age of death of each...

Turns out we really do have an average lifespan of 9 years less than righties.

The major reason I found? The body of your post--lefties have a ton of accidents trying to use all sorts of equipment designed exclusively for right handers. That's right we accidentally kill ourselves thanks to trying to fit into a right handed world.

The most common cause of accidental death I found was driving a manual transmission car (Trust me, it can be increidbly frustrating trying to shift gears in a car designed for a righthander). The most horrifying was death by right-handed chainsaw.

So yeah, now I'm pissed about being a lefty in a right-handed world.

3. Inconsiderate people.
Greedy / selfish people.

Itentionally and maliciously dishonest people.

People who speed up after you go to pass them... or who swing over into the passing lane to keep you from passing them.

That tasty food is so often fattening / unhealthy.

Work. :P

People that insist on driving in the passing lane regardless of traffic. If the lane to your right is clear, that's where you need to be. A close second are those that don't signal lane changes. We have no idea what you are planning to do. Please use your signals?

12. The 2004 women's novice crew team from Columbia University
and the judges at the Head of the Schuylkill Regatta that year who didn't penalize them for a) illegally starting the race before their boat's number was called, and b) clashing their oars against another crew's oars and boat (not only illegal, but potentially dangerous as well). :grr: Luckily, no one was injured and there was no significant damage to the equipment, but either one of those actions could have been sufficient grounds for disqualification...had the offending crew not represented an Ivy League university. :eyes: As it happened, they didn't get so much as a 30-second penalty.

As you might have guessed from the above, unfairness and discrimination (even in something so trivial as college rowing) really piss me off. Some other things that piss me off are:

- arrogance
- callous disregard for human life/senseless violence in any form
- willful ignorance
- intolerance/mocking of the beliefs of others (just because you do not believe what I do does NOT give you the right to treat me as an inferior, especially if my belief is not affecting your life in any way)
- oppression of others

But other than the Bush administration (;)), one of the things that never fails to make me absolutely furious is when people hurt my family and friends in any way. :grr: My little brother is almost 17 years old, 6 feet tall, strong as an ox from working in construction during the summer, and perfectly capable of taking care of himself, but I get extremely angry when I hear about people picking on him at school. NOBODY insults my little brother (except for me, because I'm his sister, it's my job, and it's usually done in an affectionate/joking manner). I feel the same way about people giving my dad shit at work, or my friends' significant others breaking their hearts or mistreating them in any way. You DO NOT fuck with my family and friends. I may be a laid-back and peace-loving person, but I can and will kick ass and take names when necessary. :grr:

20. Hi Cabcere!
:hi:

I'm hanging on. I might be getting my scooter as soon as next week. And at this point I'm actually looking forward to it. Struggling to walk is getting very old. I'm a stuborn bastard, but I'll ride if it gets me where I need to go.

I'm also interviewing three potential new roommates this weekend. It's going to be very busy, but that's good. Good things can come out of this. :)

I hope you're doing well.

:hi: Best of luck with the roommate situation - I remember reading about the last one dropping out of school and kind of leaving you in the lurch. :( Hopefully, you'll be able to find somebody good who suits your needs and will be able to stay for a while!

Things are going pretty well here for the moment. My mom had to have surgery yesterday to remove a softball-sized mass from her abdomen, but the doctors are pretty sure it's benign (although they're running some more tests just to make sure, since she had thyroid cancer earlier this year and they didn't catch that at first), and she seems to be recovering nicely. Other than that, it's just the usual - stressing out over term papers, getting ready for final exams, trying to decide what I want to do with my life after I graduate in May, etc. :hi: Peace!

That's always a weird experience. After about the third or fourth time I replied with, "I'm on your side. Why are you fighting with me?" or some variant on that I just gave up and stopped responding. Some people are just so reactionary that they can't even read what you wrote before starting a fight. They just see one word or phrase and go nucking futs.

but that was on another forum, not this one.

I decided to let him off the hook... but I had to get at least one smart-ass jibe in there at the end. So I made some comment about him not having a leg to stand on, then I said something along the lines of, "You'd best hope I forget about this incident, or else I might just start referring to you as 'Stumpy' from now on." :P

But only if you know you're fighting for nothing. That way it's just a game, and you can sit back and enjoy it.

Sports, checkers, card games... most of the time there's no real gain there. But people enjoy them anyway.

And some people do them for money, but that's beside the point. :)

turned her shopping cart into an aisle before me...then immediately STOPPED! Another cart was blocking the other side of the aisle, but she made no effort to move her cart forward and just casually perused the shelves. After a minute, the other shopper was polite enough to make room for me to get through, but Ms. Pushy was still stubbornly oblivious.

I know this is pretty small stuff, but I suppose it's healthier to blow off steam by quietly fuming over jerky strangers than to end up strangling one of my teenagers in their sleep. :P

37. Picking on the little guy always pisses me off.
Especially in the form of discrimination and things like that.
Accusing me of being a racist or something of that ilk also pisses me off. In all my time here I've only used the alert button twice... the first time being when someone accused me of visiting neo-nazi websites. (and no, it wasn't in GD or GD-P. It was in the science forum of all places.) The second time when some weirdo tried to accuse me of being a pedophile or something like that. I don't know what the hell either one of them was smoking, but that was when I realized that it was time to use the alert button.

There are only three things that I can think of that could ever bring me to use physical violence. #1 is defense, either of myself or of others. That's kind of a given. The two I just mentioned are numbers 2 and 3. Obviously, being a reasonable human being, I would attempt to use words first and violence second though. With a few exceptions, most namely being when someone is directly in danger. Or if they REALLY manage to piss me off beyond rational thought. Which has only happened once in my life, and that took a few months of harrassment, and I only raised a hand when I'd had a really bad bout of insomnia for a straight week and I hadn't gotten more than two or three hours of sleep in the past several days. So I was already not in my rational mind at the time.

Also, people who judge based on appearance piss me off. And I don't mean in the physical attraction sense. I mean judge a person's worth and try to determine who they are based on a casual glance. I swear, if one more person refuses to believe that I don't and have never done drugs just because I've got long hair, I might just add a fourth reason to commit violence to that list.

And in specific reference to the long hair bit... no, it's not funny. The first time I heard it it wasn't funny. The second time I heard it, it wasn't funny. The fiftieth time I heard it, it wasn't funny. The hundredth time I heard it, it wasn't funny. If I hear one more goddamned person say, "Cut your hair, you hippie!" whether they're joking or not, there will most likely be broken bones and cartilidge, and if there's a handy hard surface nearby, lost teeth. It's not just annoying, it's gotten to the point where it's just plain harrassment. And if I'm not going to let you harass some other person who doesn't fit into the mainstream world, why the (*&% would I let you do it to me? I'm not one to let emotions show through the surface... but the last person who jokingly said that to me immediately backpedaled, apologized and tried to make amends. And he was bigger than me. I didn't say anything. I didn't do anything. I can only imagine what kind of look I gave him at the time. It was taking most of my self-control not to at least make a fist right then, let alone keep myself from using it. And like I said, I've only started a fight once in my life, after months of dealing with one person's harrassment and when I was in an extremely sleep deprived state. That's how much that is starting to piss me off.

Oh, and people who are willing to endanger others because they just don't frikkin' care... they piss me off too. People who drive in an unsafe manner... people who vote republican because they want their tax cuts and they don't care whose kids go off to war to die... yeah, they piss me off a bit.
