Any fans of John Entwistle here?
I found a really neat video that isolates his bass playing from the live version of 'Won't Get Fooled Again'. It's really interesting to see just how calm he is as he scampers like a madman up and down the neck!

My main instrument is guitar but I love electric bass as well. Not just the great flashy players like the Ox, or Victor Wooten, but more classic players like McCartney and Sting and Duck Dunn as well.

1. Nice video
great right hand technique. WTF, no hug at end for the bass player.

6. That was you?
Heh, small world.

John almost made me switch instruments way back when. I used to laugh at the bass. The bass player was the one stuck in the back no could really hear or paid attention to. Who'd want to be a bassist? You got stuck with the bass, you didn't choose it. And then I heard 'Live at Leeds' on the radio. It was the track Magic Bus. The guitar and bass are each on a separate channel (speaker). I heard Townshend's great Diddley on steroids intro, the vocals, and then this strange...sound. What the hell is that? It took me till the song was almost over to realize it was a bass!

From there I learned to appreciate all styles of bass playing, from crazed in your face, to the philosophy of 'the audience should only pay attention to the bass when it STOPS playing'. Some bassist whose name I can't remember said that, and it's stuck with me. I don't really follow it, but I can understand where he's coming from.

5. Every bass player should be required to learn his part on "The Real Me"
Yep, The Ox is certainly missed.

7. Oh hell yes!
He is the reason I decided I wanted to learn bass guitar. :headbang: :loveya: The first time I watched that scene w/the isolated bass track (on The Kids Are Alright DVD), I scared my cats by squealing like a teenage fangirl over the sheer awesomeness.

10. A weird story about The OX!
I bought a poster of his at a Who show the tour before he died. Signed, drawings of himself and the rest of the band. really nice. I never got around to framing it (I have A LOT of Posters) for a couple of years.

one day I am in my shop and go "you know what I think I'll frame the Entwhistle print today'. So I cut the frame, matted it, cut the glass etc and framed it.

I picked up my wife later that day and she said, "Did you hear? John Entwhistle died"....I had no idea! Why I picked that day to frame that was too weird.
