My daily catharsis (if I spelled that right)
Look for a while at the china cat sunflower,
Proud walking jingle in the midnight sun.
Copperdome bodhi drip a silver kimono,
Like a crazy quilt stargown through a dream night wind.

*Philboy looks. Big truck. Going to the goddamn landfill again. Window down. Music blasting. Bliss. Bliss. Thinks of his love. Arm hanging out window. Cocky and confident.

Crazy cat peekin through a lace bandanna,
Like a one-eyed cheshire, like a diamond-eye jack.
A leaf of all colors plays a golden-string fiddle,
To a double-e waterfall over my back.

*Arm hanging out window. Cigarette in mouth like a fucking teenager who has not yet learned how to smoke. Grinning to the music. Stomping feet.

Comic book colors on a violin river cryin leonardo,
Words from out a silk trombone.
I rang a silent bell, beneath a shower of pearls,
In the eagle-winged palace of the queen chinee.

*Pensive, relaxed.

* Philboy sticks left leg to drivers door to feel the vibration from the speakers. smiles at the clueless people beside him stopped at the red light. Youthful cowboy jam. Thinks of his love.

I know you, rider, gonna miss me when Im gone;
I know you, rider, gonna miss me when Im gone;
Gonna miss your baby, from rolling in your arms.

Laid down last night, lord, I could not take my rest;
Laid down last night, lord, I could not take my rest;
My mind was wandering like the wild geese in the west.

The sun will shine in my back door someday.
The sun will shine in my back door someday.
March winds will blow all my troubles away.

I wish I was a headlight, on a north bound train;
I wish I was a headlight, on a north bound train;
Id shine my light through cool colorado rain.

I know you, rider, gonna miss me when Im gone;
I know you, rider, gonna miss me when Im gone;
Gonna miss your baby, from rolling in your arms.

6. Phil, I really dig the guitar melody to China Cat.
My favorite Dead songs are Golden Road and Beat it on Down the Line. I think those are the first 2 songs on their first lp. I like rock-n-roll straight up, no acid, post, new, wave, core, grind or any of that. Those songs are pure rock-n-roll joy to me.

'Take off your shoes chile have yourself a ball, cuz yer mama's down in Memphis won't be back til the fall' That's cathartic to me!

7. Hello!
"First set" guy here myself. I never did mind expanding drugs, and I've been to about 100 shows, so I always preferred the first sets, straight songs. Except for China-Rider...that always does it for me. I literally listen to 4 or 5 different versions of it every single day.

Also, Jack Straw....I've been listening to different versions of that since 1971 or so, and it still kicks me in the nuts.

I love Beat It On down The Line, and have taken great pleasure in predicting the number of opening beats whenever I used to hear it live.

Now, I never heard them do "Golden Road" live, but if you ever get the chance to see the "Zen Tricksters", there is a good chance you might hear it played in the old style. Also, Phil and Friends has been playing it lately.

I didn't check out your profile yet, but if you are anywhere near New York, it is worth an overnight trip or two to see the Tricksters.

Best wishes to you! :hi:

10. They were a great rock-n-roll band, straight up. When they
would do the drums/space stuff it would kinda bore me though. I was lucky enough to catch 'em three times. 87, 89, and 90. The 89 was the infamous mid-july show at alpine valley. Just magical.

I think Bob Marley best summed up how music is catharic (?) best. 'One good thing about music, when it hits you feel no pain!' When the Dead hit you they HIT YOU!

Best wishes back atcha Phil!:hi:

11. I have a toothache and a caffeine headache,
but if I drink caffeine now, to get rid of it, I won't be able to sleep. Speaking of which, I should go to bed. But I was pleased to see you posting. Hope you had a good Thanksgiving. Mine was nice.

Have a good night!
