It's officially Thanksgiving at ChezMidlo. BoyMidlo just dropped the pumpkin pies
in the garage on his way to putting them in the refrigerator. Wouldn't be a holiday here without at least one disaster.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

2. Seriously.
And, I can't find the ricer, the meat probe for the oven or the lovely Thanksgiving tablecloth.

Ah, renovations. House looks lovely; can't find a damned thing.

Hope you have a wonderful day!

3. We had the minor panic of not being able to find the skewers or kitchen twine
I truly don't know how my mother's kitchen disorganization works, and not surprisingly, neither does she.

Fortunately the turkey is out of the brine, stuffed, and roasting nicely in the oven, fortunately we had no problem finding the temperature probe and none of the pies have been dropped yet.

20. My sis clogged the garbage disposal EVERY FRIGGIN YEAR
Edited on Thu Nov-22-07 10:13 PM by havocmom
She and BIL built a new home. Regular sinj and prep sink in kitchen. He had both sinks fitted with the biggest damned garbage disposals he could get (just a tad smaller than the chipper in 'Fargo'). He said he was getting her two, cuz he was done taking pipes apart while everyone else was eating pie.

10. So far, so good in the Becker household.
Did most of the cooking last night, for a change.

Granted, we don't have gangly teens yet to muck up the flow of things, so I feel for you.

Have a great one!

12. Neighborhood dog brought us a fully cooked turkey.
Several years ago we were having Thanksgiving at a friend's house.
Before we sat down to eat, we saw a big lab drag a fully cooked turkey into the back yard.
Bird looked to be about 15 or so pounds.
Nice and golden brown.
Never did learn whose it was.
Bet they were surprised.

15. I tried making pecan pie last year.
Burned the crap out of it.

I took a chance last night and made a chocolate pecan pie. Keep your fingers crossed...

16. I massacred the squash last year...
Note to self: Do NOT pass out on the couch with squash in the oven...It will turn black and fill your house with a gawdawful stench. x(

18. Sounds like me
the year I learned that 151 proof rum is NOT what you want to put in mincemeat. Finding your pies aflame when you go to check them is not fun.

(put the filling into new shells...stuff was really good. more than an inch slice would be grounds for a dui.)

19. Husband desperately wanted a pumpkin custard pie for Thanksgiving
specifically a Mrs. Smith's pumpkin custard pie. Tuesday we went food shopping for Thanksgiving dinner and the store didn't have one. He got upset. So I suggested stopping at another food store - no luck. However Wednesday we went to Whole Foods and there on a shelf was a pumpkin pie made with milk and eggs. We grabbed it and ran. I put it in the dining room and neither one of us thought anymore about it - that is until he got it to cut for dessert. It had molded and there was a bug in the box. Needless to say, the pie went into the garbage can and the husband will have to hold out until tomorrow when I can get to the store and see if I can find him an adequate substitute. Poor guy - he was craving it so badly.
