Was cool when he was writing a very large percentage of the hits from the mid-late 60s, then wasn't when he became a vegas-type "adult AOR" type in the late 70's/80s.. then became cool again in a retro kinda way by working with Rick Rubin.

Some of the guys in the horn section played with my brother when they were on the bus with Maynard Ferguson for too long. Then, they went to play with ND and Geno went off to do something else. We used to see them when their show came to San Jose. Super nice people. :)

the "complete truth" about the origin of that song. I feel he may have used poetic license.
