I'm starting to believe that thing where your body naturally goes to a certain weight and it happens to be higher than the weight I had gotten to a few months ago. Before my clothes were hanging off and I thought I was too skinny, (I had lost the weight because of a stomach problem). I gained about 10 pounds and wanted to stay
there but I keep putting on weight!!!

I don't want to weight 170 again. I hate that. Right now I am 155 and I am disgusted. But I am eating like a pig so why should I be surprised. I also don't like that my clothes are starting to get real tight. I hate wearing tight clothes.

Soooooo diet pills or weight watchers? I've been to weight watchers before and it has worked really well. I've tried the pills before and they make me sick.

Anyone else have trouble with weight and how to you cope?

1. Here you go....cut salt COMPLETELY out of your diet.....
Edited on Wed Nov-21-07 02:56 AM by TK421
you will see weight drop, I PROMISE you that...

That's one of the reasons why I dropped 75 pounds in less than seven months...by cutting salt out of my diet. Mind you, many things that you eat already contain salt, but keeping an eye on the sodium content of the products you buy ( along with cutting out salt you add to the food you cook yourself ) will drastically reduce your weight...

This I know...good luck

2. Wow that's interesting. So the non-fat potato chips I ate this afternoon
is a no go right?

3. Non-fat means jack-shit

most of these products will claim to reduce the amounts of mono or poly-unsaturated fats, but the sodium content is what puts your weight through the roof. The same thing goes for T.V dinners....yeah, they're convenient, but they each have a serving of about 1400 milligrams of sodium...a ton of salt, which makes the body retain fluid and prevent it from properly burning calories in it's natural state.

When you buy products, look for low-sodium...but fat-free products ( in my experience ) usually taste like crap, and make you want to buy something with more salt ( flavor ) and more brands are putting out products catering to those who are looking for it.

edited to add: you can burn fat calories just by wiggling your little finger for an hour....but once your body has processed that much sodium, the damage has already been done. Too much sodium is the absolute WORST thing you can do to your body....believe me, I know.

5. Hey, thanks.
I knew too much salt wasn't good for you, but didn't realize it had such an impact on weight.

I'm gonna have to take that idea for a spin!

8. Are you sure?
I don't mean to be a downer, but I've never heard that before. Do you have a linky? What probably happened is that you cut out high cal processed food when you attempted to cut the salt. Salt itself doesn't make you gain weight...if anything, more salt should cause a temporary drop in weight as you lose water.

I could be wrong though.

6. Eat less, walk more
I should talk. I have struggled with weight since I stopped climbing mountains twenty years ago. Back then I could consume 6K calories a day and it was nothing.

First: Make sure that you are taking a daily multivitamin because it might just be that your body is craving some mineral or vitamin missing from your present diet.

Embrace your inner mammal. Mammals tend to slow down and even hibernate this time of year. Get outside and take a walk around the block. Just a bare minimum of exercise can make a difference.

Smaller portions. Chew and enjoy your food completely, stop before you are completely sated.

If you must snack, substitute healthy foods no matter how unappetizing they may seem. If it's all you have in the kitchen, trust me you will eat it.

I don't have any easy answers. Just be thankful that too much food is an odd problem viewed from an historical perspective. It's an odd problem viewed from 75% of this world. I won a free pizza yesterday on a radio show. I told them to give it to someone more needy, in honor of Thanksgiving.

I don't have a sweet tooth, I swear I have a fat tooth. Especially this time of year. I can pass on a platter of chocolate, but stick a bowl of nuts in front of me and I need restraints.

Don't know if any of this helps but remember that we are all in this together.

And on a side note, on this eve of Thanksgiving Day, be thankful that too much food is the least of our problems.

9. Thanks for that thought. Too much food rather than too little food is a reason
to be grateful.

10. Weight is bullshit.
If you go to the gym hard, and make a bunch of muscle, you may increase your weight, but lose inches of fat. That's my suggestion...hit the gym hard. High weight, low rep...high intensity running and biking. You gain muscle, increase your metabolism, then lose fat "weight". Best of all, you can get back to a lower weight without looking too skinny.

It's all about the gym. When I put the gym on hiatus (I finished school and I don't have a good job yet, so I don't get free gym any more ) I pretty much started gaining weight, and not in a good way.

11. My girlfriend gained allot of weight in a short period of time...
It's about a change in metabolism.

Around the time she turned 35, she put on allot of weight & felt very un-sexy. Her eating habits hadn't changed -- just her body's ability to metabolize her food intake.

Exercises is the answer for men & women. I can eat anything I want as long as I exercises 30-40 minutes a day. The more I exercises -- the more I crave healthy foods.
