What do you suck at?
I suck a folding fitted sheets. I really, truly suck at it.

Does anyone else have some basic skill that they just can't master?

C'mon, guys, make me feel better about myself... :P

3. Writing legibly
Edited on Tue Nov-20-07 06:25 PM by AspieGrrl
My handwriting is truly dreadful. It looks like a 6-year-old's. It's also really exhausting for me to write...mentally and physically.

Interestingly enough, I couldn't write at all until I was 6 and a half years old. Or tie my shoes, really.

53. same here Ms. Aspie
much easier now with email. :)

My autistic brother (possibly Aspie - never officially diaganosed) was seven when he learned to speak and write but was much older when he learned how to tie his shoes. He's left-handed and the rest of the family is right - we struggled teaching him how to tie his shoes until a left-handed boyfriend of mine (when I was a teenager) taught him in five minutes how to tie his shoes LOL

38. i'm serious..i was that bad.
i was so awful that the band director asked me to pretend to play. so i sat there with the horn held up, doing all the fingerings, and not making a peep.

i used to be really pissed about it, but i have to admit, i was atrocious. but, the deal was good for me. i got out of class for the equivalent of a couple of weeks a year.

50. I was asked by my high school chorus director not to sing during concerts.
First he asked me to quit chorus, and when I refused because I didn't want to be a quitter (he begged me to be a quitter), he asked me to lipsync during concerts. Sometimes I got carried away and sang anyway, and then he'd mouth at me "you're flat!"

I'm still convinced that somehow, someway, I might be able to sing.

11. Learning new languages
My brain seems stuck in "English mode". I can learn enough of Latin-based languages to get by, if I try really hard, but anything Germanic or Slavic leaves me speaking baby-talk after months of living in the country in question.

And I really suck at playing any musical instrument. I must have the notorious "tin ear" (which might explain some of my language problem as well).

13. Driving. I hate it I hate it I hate it! And I have no choice in the matter.
If I could use public transportation for getting around then I'd use it. Except I work crazy hours, the bus doesn't even run close to our house and it's a 25 mile commute to work.

I have dents and dings in the minivan, a couple of scrapes on the car. I live with them rather than filing insurance claims otherwise my premiums would be through the roof.

I was just trying to fold fitted sheets the other day and thinking I had the same failing. I ended up just balling them up and stuffing them into the linen closest...I mean who cares if the sheets are wrinkled right? lol

But other than that...I suck at pronunciation of foreign languages...if I really work at it I get the vocabulary and even enough grammer but I can never make my New England lips and tongue form anything that doesn't sound like ... well like I was raised in New England.

While singing karaoke in Japan a person turned the volume of my microphone off.

I played in a softball tournament in law school. Being left handed and not fleet of foot, I played first base. Nobody told me that the soft-spoken young woman at short-stop had just played four years of NCAA fastpitch softball at Missouri Southern University. I discovered that in a hurry on the first ground out.
