What film would be a bad idea for a Broadway musical?
There has been a trend in recent years to adapt films as stage musicals..."The Producers" "Hairspray" "The Color Purple" "Legally Blonde"...even "Sweet Smell of Success". There is going to be a musical version of "Young Frankenstein" opening soon.

What film would be a bad idea for a musical adapation?

I think "Saw...the Musical" would probably be unwatchable.

8. Tommy.
It was bad enough as a movie. On the plus side, though, if it was a live musical, the audience would at least be able to get up on stage and strangle the cast.

28. If I remember correctly, it was more of a concert than a "musical."
Edited on Tue Nov-20-07 02:59 PM by Kutjara
The Who were onstage the whole time in their normal band setup, while various guest singers came on to perform particular songs. There were no sets or scenery and there was no attempt to act out the story.

This was "rectified" in the movie, alas, which contained more ham than a Danish abattoir.

It's the possibility of a live staging of the movie that keeps me awake at night. Can you imagine who'd they'd cast from today's crew of "stars"? It makes my blood run cold.

:hi:
