4. Yup, same here. I'm 68 and always salt my food
before tasting it because I know that it will not be salty enough for me.

25. Nope. Not all.
My great-grandfather lived until he was ninety-something, and drove his wife crazy every day (she was over twenty years younger). He'd dump about a ton of salt on everything she cooked, and then yell "Sonia! You put too much salt in this again!" I think God didn't want the old tyrant, and the devil was afraid of the competition. I have lots of family members like that, and they all seem to live a long, long time.

3. And the "English Language" has WORDS to describe those people.
LOTS of words.

Words I'll not use here, in front of the decent and kindhearted
populace of the DU Lounge.

Let's just say that, as a self-trained COOK who has recieved
many heartfelt accolades from experienced and well-traveled gourmands,
I hold such people in VERY low esteem.

I'm not saying I'd actually KICK them; I'm just saying they
might occasionally fall to the floor when you aren't looking.

9. So would it be better ...
to dump ketchup on the food before tasting it?

And pick ice cubes out of the water glass to drop into the wine glass?

At Olive Garden?

28. And the words I'd use would be "Food Channel Show Hosts." Every one of them.
I happen to really like salt, but I'd never pile it on like they do. Emeril is the worst.

5. I always taste before adding salt
nothing is worse then having food that's already salty and someone adds in even more salt.

To be honest, the only thing that I salt on a regular basis is spinach and perhaps if I have one of those breakfast eggs & potatoes type deals. Other than that I rarely salt. My gynecologist was the one that got me to quit when I realized it only made cramps worse

8. I am well aware that I like my food saltier than most people make it
besides that, I'm usually the cook, so I know that what I've made, while seasoned just fine for those other people that will eat it, will definitely not be salty enough for me.

15. My husband does this
and I comment each time. I tell him I spend a lot of time getting the seasoning just right and he obliterates it by pouring on salt. I think his taster is off. He could have worse vices though.

16. They'd never get hired by Thomas Edison.
Apparently, he'd take prospective employees to lunch and, if they salted their food before tasting it, he'd refuse to hire them. He didn't want people working for him who were slaves of habit.

But then, I have low blood pressure.

26. Me? I have a free hand with the pepper shaker
Though I do taste the food first. Rarely is it spicy enough for my taste, unless it's Mexican, Thai or Vindaloo.

BTW, the world's spiciest cuisine is Indonesian. Their "medium" is my "excruciatingly hot".

31. I don't like food very salty, and I cook a lot
It kills me to see someone pour salt (or catsup) on something I've fixed before just TRYING it. Don't they realize that there is a delicate bouquet of flavors in there? LOL.

Those Food Network people just scoop it on. They'll say, "Just add a LITTLE salt" and put in so much that you can SEE it. Maybe it's a visual thing.
