LLoyd Carr is a quitter
ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) - Lloyd Carr retired Monday after 13 years as Michigan's coach, following a season defined by a startling loss to Appalachian State and yet another defeat by Ohio State.

5. Retiring is not quitting
He's been with the program for 28 years and he's tired of watching the circus college football has become thanks to the BCS -- all that matters now to most people is the national championship as defined the by BCS. I don't blame him but I'm sorry to see him go. He is a gentleman and integrity personified; someone who cares about preparing young men for the real world not job hopping for championships. You won't see his kind anymore.

Plus he's a Democrat.

9. Here's a couple of quotes. Perhaps you didn't watch the Bo tribute
Bo was very well known to be a Republican (the only bad thing I knew about him!)

Carr made mention of his political leanings at the Bo tribute. He talked about how he and Bo loved to argue politics. He was fondly remembering their disagreements and heated debates. When Clinton got in trouble for the BJ, Bo told Carr, “This is YOUR president.” Almost like it was Carr’s doing.

Reed, thanks- I remember that from the Bo tribute! Good stuff.

I’ve known Carr for many years and he is a big time liberal. I think it is due to his friendship with Lee Bollinger although I’m not certain of the roots.

15. Sure!
Lloyd Carr reminds me of Jimmy Stewart - the little twinkle in his eye, the way he talks. I always liked his persona, but the fact that he's a Democrat is just icing on the cake.

He spends a boatload of time trying to raise money for Mott Children's Hospital. Every year, the team does a charity car wash to raise money for them.

He is also a huge history buff.

18. Definitely, he's a great guy. Here's a new article from ESPN
I've always thought he was fantastic, and I'm really proud that he was at Michigan.

17. He did everything a college football coach should do
He ran a clean program (no NCAA violations)
He ran a clean program (His players stayed out of trouble)
He won, alot 121-40 .752
The one thing he didn't do was beat OSU lately. Sadly that was enough for some to "get out the long knives" Sorry to see him go.

19. I bleed scarlet and gray
And I would be the first to say that Lloyd was a good guy. I liked him when he was whipping us under John Cooper and I liked him (maybe a little bit more) during the Tressel years.

He's a class act.
