1. Depends what your tastes are.
Hard to make recommendations when you have no idea what a person enjoys.

2. Good. I made it to one of these early.
As for newer stuff, I've like "The Prestige" and "Children of Men". We also watched the mini series documentary about Ewan McGregor and his buddy riding across globe on motorcycles called "Long Way Round," I think.

Likewise, tell me some stuff you've picked up on lately and enjoyed.

9. Very eclectic in our house
I like everything but scary, gory, violent or that stupid teen crap. My husband especially likes sci fi and good or campy scary.

I don't know what to pick and haven't really been moved my anything we've chosen lately. That's why I'm asking.

11. rome was a good (but short) series
as far as movies go, i don't go to the movies, so i can't recommend newer ones

the station agent is always one of my fall-back movies. mostly marta is a good german film (the movie with catherine zeta-jones a a chef was a remake of this movie), zue and zo is a dutch film that never fails to move me. if you haven't seen princess mononoke or spirited away, i highly recommend those.

24. Hero.
Elegant wire-fu in incredible, gorgeous settings, wrapped up in a Rashomon-like story. Great acting, and very good English dubbing that beats the pants off the stilted language in the subtitles.
