Cat allergies - long hair vs. short hair
Okay loungers - since many of you are cat owners, give me your opinion...

Is a long-haired cat better than a short-haired cat as far as allergies go.

I am well aware of the saliva issues regarding allergies - I was just wondering if there was a difference as far as hair.

PS - we are getting a new kitty tomorrow!!! :bounce:

1. I have had both long and short hair
and a Maine Coon, and they have a very distinctive double layered fur. I haven't noticed much of a difference between them.

5. The pain is very bad today.
The arthritis is really flaring up in a bunch of places at once. I've lost my voice (which happens for some reason when I'm in a lot of pain). :(

I'm trying to get into a good mood today, but I'm a but grumpy and disoriented.

2. it's not the hair... it's the dander
I have a girlfriend who is allergic to cats. Some cats don't bother her at all, some cause all kinds of trouble. She says she has no way to tell which ones cause trouble and which ones don't. Apparently, length of hair has nothing to do with it.

4. That's good to know - then it should be all about the
dander and saliva (from the grooming).

I suppose I will just have to bury my face in the necks of all the kitties tomorrow when I go to the shelter.

6. I'm allergic to every and all cats.
They make me die. This is why I'm convinced they're Satan's children.

Long hair makes it worse, but only a bit. Short hair cats also make me die, just a little bit more slowly.

7. Persian cats are definately "Satan's Children" . We have one who will act all lovey
dovey and then when pet her for a while she will turn on you. Of course she may still have issues resulting from being a teenage mom and being forced to give up her kittens so it is hard to tell.
