4. because humans would get really, really pissed if
it wasn't there.

Air. One has to appreciate it almost as much as the golden colors of the leaves in Autumn.

Almost.

5. Nope. Not the answer the judges were looking for.
As those of us who grew up listening to BillCosbyRecords know,
the answer is: to fill balls.

Balls.

7. Because the massive piles of discarded & edible organic material created by human cohabitation...
...have created a HUGE artificial ecological NICHE for hardy mammals which
have the following characteristics:

*: A "learning" brain structure; adaptive to new & ever-changing environments.
*: Small stature & flexible construction to get into & out of semi-sealed areas.
*: Simple, basic digestive tract which allows consumption of almost all organic materials.
*: Strong immune system + rapid breeding rate to outpace every PLAGUE we pass to them.

Put all those things together, and one species comes out on top: rats.

You know, rats exist in NATURE- they're just squirrels that aren't into
the whole "climbing" thing.

It's HUMAN CITIES that have created and nurtured the majority
of the modern rat population. If humans disappeared tomorrow, most
of the worlds rats would be dead soon after.

8. nope. it's because
there aren't enough cats in the right places.

Just like in Delhi. Too many monkeys. Throw a few thousand cats in the mix, and problem solved.
