1. Zappa, Louise Lasser, Replacements, Costello...hell, that's good company!
Appears to be an honor to be banned from Lorne Michaels' pathetic dead horse

2. Is it true about one set of sketches, from the early days?
Someone told me the Buck Henry sketches with him as the pedophile uncle were chopped off the DVD's.

Even back then, I didn't think they were funny in the least.

5. He makes me wonder if he's joking.
My sweetie had never heard of him; when he popped
up unexpectedly on The Daily Show, I commented,
"I wonder if he'll get through this bit without
making a joke about child molesting?"

He didn't. :wow: It's fricking 2007, and he's
still JOKING about that.

Makes me wonder.

13. Oh man...
I managed to block those from my memory until about 15 years ago, when I saw one and completely freaked out.

:scared:

6. That list says more about Lorne Michaels than it says about the performers.
Just my opinion.

7. Too bad about Zappa. His performances on those shows were brilliant.
Okay, maybe not his acting in the sketch about the killer Christmas trees, but the musical performances were incredible.

9. I heard the Milton Berle one sucked in every way possible.
I didn't see it, but I heard it was one of the most horrible 90 minutes in the history of television.

14. You don't have to be fucked up, you have to buck the system.
They didn't want Elvis C. to sing his song "Radio Radio" and he did it anyway.

that was comedy gold!

I think of her like a robot, good programming has a catch-all response for when her situation responder ( we'll call it ) can't find a response to match the one she finds herself in. Just in case. But someone made her go into 'ho-down' mode

I can't wait to see video of her getting a DUI while naked and covered in blow

it'll be ho-down time again

19. If Tom Green could escape the axe, so can Ashlee
I personally liked Green's performance on SNL, but I'll bet he gave Lorne an ulcer.

16. Martin's monologue was hilarious
Edited on Fri Nov-09-07 02:12 PM by underpants
I remember watchng it with a couple of buddies and this was right after Martin had gotten busted on a street in LA

He supposedly had been warned

The funniest part was in reference to feminine hygiene and it's direct relationship to the likelihood of oral sex the phrase that got him kicked off was, I believe, "You better put a tic-tac up that a** or SOMETHING!"

It was very funny.

18. Apparently...
All you have to do is defy Lorne or go against his definition of 'teh funny'. As he's gotten older, this has become easier to do, and I suspect that the tepid nature of the skits and talent are a reflection of this.

SNL, once a venerable institution, has become unwatchable.

20. I agree
I don't even waste the Tivo space because when I have I have just wondered --why are the people in the audience laughing? Do they not want to feel like they wasted an evening out of their lives?

Seriously it is painful to watch anymore.

Oh and you should hear Harry Shearer talk about Lorne Michaels-apparently Lorne has made a living off just playing on people's darkest fears.

21. "banned" seems like the wrong word
for most of these examples, although it is much sexier than saying, "wasn't hired again because the producers thought they sucked the first time"

Violence, obscenties, and mayhem were their stock in trade.

23. SNL Lost Me When They Didn't Go Hard After Bush
SNL's stock and trade lies in their satirical portraits of the current president. Every president got it good starting with Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, Bush I, and Clinton. For Bush II, it's been hands off.
