In case anyone cares. Gordon Ramsay's "Kitchen Nightmares" is about to begin
in about 10 minutes. It's a pretty good look into the restaurant industry if the BBC version of the show is any indication

1. The BBC version is 10X better IMHO.
The US version is shitty.

2. I saw one episode of the US version
I thought it was good, but it played up his (extremely rude) personality a little more than the BBC version. However, it does a good job of showing what it takes to make a successful restaurant and how so many fools go into the business for the wrong reasons

3. I prefer "Chef!" - also British, starring Lenny Henry, and made in 1993...

4. I never heard of that one
I've always been into shows about food, but I never heard of that show or that guy

5. It was B.B.C. sitcom based in a restaurant
Lenny Henry is a magnificent comedian and most of his work is well-worth seeing...but it's not really a show about food.

13. Brilliantly written.
I liked the earlier episodes better, though.

7. During this current episode, it's obvious that...
... after Sebastian threatened to kick the film crew out, someone
from legal must've shown him the contract he signed. My guess is
that Sebastian would have to pay for the restaurant makeover.

Suddenly, Sebastian changed his tune, didn't he?

9. I find I like watching him berate idiot owners a lot better than...
...watching him humiliate his students.

10. Same here.
I wouldn't mind eating in a restaurant of his, but I sure as hell wouldn't want to work for him or with him.

12. Me too
I think it's because I recognize how stupid these owners are.

And I would work for him. So what if he yells? You can't get an education like that in many places.

11. while he is probably the only guy in the world who has racked up 12 michelin
stars without attending culinary school, his communication style probably only works on TV.

Screaming obscenities at your employees, smearing them with risotto, etc. generally doesn't produce good results.

The restaurant industry I know doesn't have make-up, editing and camera crews -- it is a grind. Long hours for owners and managers, employee theft, constant hiring, undocumented kitchen workers, shake downs by grease disposal companies and local inspectors won't make it to television. "Reality television" is an oxymoron.
