I mean the high-pitched voice, not the subjects they talk about. What's up with that?

1. There was this woman in my office building
I guess she was early 20's and just out of college, but she constantly talked in a baby voice. It sounded totally put-on.

it always sounds to me like it's put on. And in some cases I got proof that it was... cause in a couple cases, the people got upset and so I got a chance to hear their not so girly voice.

2. Some of it is a symptom of abuse
That strained little girl voice. I didn't realize that until I read DU, but it's apparently one of the symptoms of sexual abuse.

11. Heh. Interesting blog entry I found
Like Monica Goodling, the 33-year-old, right-wing Justice Department official with a suspicious law degree, bad ethics and the voice of a twelve-year-old. Seems that we weren't the only ones cringing during Goodling's Legally Blonde-like testimony before Congress last month: In fact, Milne-Tyte started off her Marketplace segment with an audio snippet of Goodling's remarks before the mostly-male House Justice Committee, then spoke to business and communication experts about this sort of vocal dumbing-down among female professionals. The theory behind it is that some women are either so scared of their own professional shadows or so afraid of being labeled feminists that they "overcorrect" by speaking and/or acting like young girls.... Just Add 'Um'

but it's really true. I here women who sound much younger than they really are all the time. (And no, not just in the South, in case anybody was wondering.) It's crazy making. :banghead:

I worked with another young woman in retail who sometimes did the little girl voice and would (seriously) read various children's books aloud as we were cleaning up the store for the night. Then minutes later she'd relate a totally filthy (and I'm no prude, but these stories were out there) sexual escapade she had with an ex-boyfriend or two. I always wondered if there was something really wrong there.

9. My friend's ex spoke of herself in the third person.
Seriously. "Tina's hungry." "Tina's bored." "Tina thinks that sounds like fun." Hey, tell Tina to STFU. Ye gods.

I know one girl that refers to herself in the third person using a nickname that no one else calls her "pumpkin is hungry"

18. I'm irritated by women who still speak 'Valley'
well into their 20s and beyond. Oddly enough, perhaps, it seems many of them work in public relashuuuuuuuns.

20. That's one of the (several) reasons I can't stand Sarah Silverman.
I have a girlish voice, but it's QUITE different from the baby voice some women use for whatever bizarre reasons. Like fingernails on a blackboard. :puke:

I saw her in a fake interview thing with Josh Homme and she spoke normally enough. I wonder when she puts the girly voice on.

Every woman on these shows talk like teenage valley girls. All high pitched, giggly, and whiny. I just want to scream at them that they are not 13 anymore!!!!:puke:
