My brother had to work so I rode in on the train with him and hung out in the lower east side. I had a few goals: 1. Get some GOOD pizza. Its damn hard to find good pizza in the DC area. I hit Ben's pizza twice while wandering around, and brought a pie home from the pizzeria near my brother's house in Mamaroneck. 2. Have a good hot dog. Gray's Papaya dog for their 3.50 2 dog and drink special with kraut and mustard. Ketchup would be a sacrilege 3. Find some music. It sucks that B&N, Virgin, Tower don't carry the stuff I like at all and then can walk into a Other Music and not only find it but that they carry enough of it to have dividers for the artists instead of plopping them into the Misc bin. 4. Comics - Forbidden Planet. And I didn't have to feel bad about spending an hour there while my wife waited for me. 5. Find some toys. Not 1, not 2, but 3 stores that carry urban vinyl and japanese action figures. Toy Tokyo, Giant Robot, and Kid Robot all had great selections even if they are a little expensive. 6. Spend time in a good bookstore. OMG, the last stop was The Strand. That place is way dangerous to walk into with out a list. I bought way more than I planned and found an autographed copy of Tony Bourdain's new book for my wife's birthday.
To top it off I get back to the studio my brother is working at and find out they are having a party and showing sample reels from some independent animators. My feet still hurt from all the walking. Sorry to you NYC Duers, I didn't know I would be in the city until the last minute, maybe next time I'll get a chance to meet up with some of you.
