4. I'm watching the
opening of Parliament.

Evidently the Marquis takes the crown into the "robing" room where Elizabeth then dons it.

She just arrived - she looks fantastic in all white.

6. It was on Cspan
very early this morning. I recorded it.

It's quite a spectacle!

Baroness Thatcher is there, too, and looks surprisingly life-like.

8. It's fascinating...
her crown arrives in its own horse-drawn carriage. When she arrives, they take down the Union Jack and raise the royal standard. She follows a very defined path into the "robing room" where she'll don something really regal-loooking.

Then she'll give a speech to parliament.

It's all very ceremonial - fun to watch!

10. It must work on the same principle as the word "worcestershire"
which people pronounce "wooster" or "worster." Anything over two syllables confuses.

16. We had a dog named Cholmondeley when I was a kid.
Cute rat terrier/cocker mix. And we pronounced it properly too. My father read the name somewhere and loved it.

20. If that "B" is silent, you are correct
It's usually phonetically spelled as "Chumly." Norman names are fun.

21. yeah,
I was just going by the pronunciation they used on c-span, but my meager research shows it's "Chumley".

The Marquis of Chumley directed a movie version of "Other Voices, Other Rooms".
