Who's already looking forward to the Summer Olympics?
They don't start until August 8, '08. But I like swimming and there's a new wrinkle this year w/ a couple of open water races.

I like most of the other sports, too, including track, gymnastics, and volleyball. Especially women's v-ball w/ their long rallies. Probably my favorite team sport because my heart goes to my throat with every spike.

1. What are these "Olympics" of which you speak?
I haven't paid the slightest bit of attention to the Olympics since politics first entered the games in 1980.

Politics and professionals have turned them into something...I do not know what that something is, but it's NOT the Olympics, so I don't even notice them anymore.

2. I'm boycotting the whole thing.
I cannot personally condone the fact that the games were awarded to Beijing, considering China's horrific record on human rights. We won't be watching the games at all.

4. Well...the politics of it all affected my friends and me

I swam and two guys I trained w/ would likely have gone, one with near certainty, in 1980. But it didn't embitter us. Two of us coached for years after that, so it would have been silly for me to have quit caring, what w/ our swimmers angling for the Olympic trials, etc.

To each his own. I haven't watched a pro football game since roughly '80 either, I don't think. Less action per broadcast minute than any other sport on tv. I can't imagine the whole "2 college games on Sat, two pro games on Sunday, Mon Night Football" mindset and what it takes to get there.

:hi:

5. I've always found the Olympic games unbelievably boring.
And all the media pomp surrounding it has only made me less interested.

6. My family's looking forward to them - a 17yo girl on my daughter's swim team has a very good chance
of making the Olympic team. The whole team (and families) is pretty psyched at the idea of getting to watch someone they know well on TV in the Olympics.

And Phelps may break Mark Spitz's record of 7 gold medals, which would be pretty cool.
