4. Silver Christmas trees are making a comeback, for the wheel
Edited on Sun Nov-04-07 08:19 AM by woodsprite
I'd try Ebay.

Edited to add: Ebay has TONS of wheels and trees.

I removed the link to my search because I wasn't sure it should be here. But do a Ebay search on "christmas color wheel" and you'll get a bunch of hits (4 pages).

6. Had one for the past 10 years
Here's Xmas 2006:

I also have a pair of small aluminum trees that hung on the wall and a large aluminum ornament that hung from the ceiling.

7. my grandmother had one with the color wheel, and my mom had a
smaller one, table top, no color wheel. My mom rejoiced at the thought of no more live trees, they made her sneeze and cough. I took her small one to college for dorm room decoration purposes, my room mate and I used it for 3 years.

They sure were easy to decorate!

11. Those are awesome I want one again!
but did you ever get like shocked by it when walking across the carpet then touching the tree and the icicles?

We had one of those one year, then yet another year, we had a solid white flocked tree with all red ball ornaments...my parents were trendy groovy parents in the 60's....

12. My artificial Christmas tree has a color-wheel built into the base.
It illuminates the fiber-optic tubes that spray up the tree from the base, and change color every few seconds. It's cool. B-)

15. I DO remember those! And here's a link to the Aluminum Tree & Ornament Museum! (Called ATOM)

Interesting site, but could use more pics.
If you're in or near Brevard, North Carolina, you can actually visit this place.
http://www.aluminumtree.com

My aunt and uncle had a huge one--about 7 ft. tall--with pink and blue ball ornaments.
And used a color wheel not only inside, but a large one on the outside of their home that would also highlight the tree as it stood in the window.

18. I had one in my room when I was a kid...
For many years, they were thought of as the height of tackiness, but they now seem a nostalgic memory of the early '60s, when we were on the verge of the "space age," and it was trendy for things to be recast in a "futuristic" mold.

I don't think they look good as a standard tree (with ornaments and packages around the base) but, put in the bay window of a '60s-era ranch house, with the color wheel providing the only light, they really look quite stunning.

I realizethere are a lot of people here who may have "fond" memories of them, but that's the way it is. :)

21. We had one around 1965-1966 or so
I was fascinated by the moving color wheel. That was more interesting than the tree, to me.

26. me!
My paternal grandparents had one, with the color wheel, in the early 60's. I found it to be too, too modern and always have preferred a live tree with it's imperfection and beautiful fragrance. But...

Several years ago I bought an aluminum tree at a local antique store and my sister found a color wheel for me and a musical revolving base at a garage sale. So now I have 2 trees at Christmas and enjoy the memories of sitting in my granparents parlor in Trenton, NJ, watching the tree change color. And my kids think I'm wierd.
