If you could, would you stay in your occupation or change?
I realize that if you are a grade school student, there's no choice of changing that, at least in the U.S. I'm still not employed, but I'm looking to be self-employed. If I could make more money and be independent, I'd become a music critic. I'm always making best of lists and rating albums. Here's how I'd rate some albums on Metacritic.com (out of 5 stars). Ratings are for their latest release. If I haven't heard the whole CD, I'll give thumbs up or down according to what I heard:

50 Cent (2/5 - but take my rap ratings with a grain of salt)
Avenged Sevenfold
Band Of Horses
Bat For Lashes
James Blunt
Vanessa Carlton (5/5)
The Cave Singers
Kenny Chesney (3.5/5)
Keyshia Cole
Dashboard Confessional
The Donnas (4.5/5)
The Eagles (want to hear it but have not)
Steve Earle (4/5)
Earlimart
Eisley (5/5)
Melissa Etheridge (3.5/5)
The Fiery Furnaces
Foo Fighters (4/5)
Deborah Harry (4/5)
PJ Harvey (3.5/5)
Imperial Teen (4.5/5)
Iron & Wine
Jimmy Eat World (4/5)
Kid Rock
Korn
Ben Lee (4/5)
Annie Lennox (3.5/5)
Jennifer Lopez
M.I.A. (0.5/5)
Lori McKenna (4/5)
Thurston Moore
Roisin Murphy (meh)
The New Pornographers (5/5)
The Pipettes (2.5/5)
Radiohead (4.5/5)
Rilo Kiley (4.5/5)
LeAnn Rimes (2/5)
Josh Ritter (5/5)
Rogue Wave (4/5)
Patti Scialfa (2/5)
She Wants Revenge
Siouxsie
Britney Spears (1/5)
Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band (5/5)
Stars (4.5/5)
Serj Tankian
KT Tunstall (4/5)
Carrie Underwood (4/5)
The Weakerthans
Kanye West (4/5)

A couple others:

Backstreet Boys - Unbreakable (2.5/5)
Skye Sweetnam - Sound Soldier (3.5/5)

So if you could change profession, would you?

1. tough question...i left my profession on purpose
Edited on Fri Nov-02-07 03:37 PM by MrCoffee
i'm not practicing law right now because i wanted my kids to recognize me when i got home. it was readily apparent to me right out of law school that in order to be a "successful" attorney (not necessarily a wealthy one) would require so much of my time that everything would be put on the back burner. so i left the firm and took a job with a 40-hour workweek.

all things being equal, i'd rather be a working attorney. as they are, i think i'll stay where i am for a while longer

6. Understood
That's why I think by owning a franchise, I'll have a chance to pick how it affects quality of life.

3. I wish that I could afford to pursue my chosen profession.
But thanks to the craptacular debt load from student loans I had to take jobs that actually pay well. So here I am in corporate hell. :(

Bush would probably veto more aid. I have high bills from college, too. With some help I'm paying on them, but not much.
