Ready for the cinematic return of Joy Division?
Edited on Thu Nov-01-07 09:33 PM by swag
First there's Anton Corbijn's (he of iconic JD photography and video fame) film Control (trailer here).

Then there's Grant Lee's documentary.

If you can't wait, there's Fac 211, Wired, the short 1988 Factory Records documentary on the band.

And 24 Hour Party People is still a fun ride.

And, of course, the last scene of the last film Ian Curtis ever watched.

1. I was totally unaware of this! Thanks!
I still have my old 'Love Will Tear Us Apart'
t-shirt. A little worse for wear and tear but one of my
fave band t-shirts. Ranks right up there with my 'Lard'
t-shirt.

3. My favorite t-shirts from back when are full of holes and getting mildewed in a basement trunk.
A crudely silk-screened shirt from DEVO's first tour, given to me by a dear fellow who roadied for them in the mid-Atlantic states, and another shirt featuring the image from the cover of the Stranglers' Black and White.

I should really try to recreate both shirts one of these days.

4. i just watched "24 hour party people" again about a month ago.
I used to listen to the Happy Mondays all the time back in the early 90's. nobody else could stand them that I knew.

I have been meaning to read the book by Ian Curtis'wife (i forget the name of it).

I also watched Dig! yet again (off topic)

:hi:

5. I don't know if "Dig!" is so off-topic.
It's a conjoined twin of sorts, in my tiny mind at least, of "24 Hour Party People."

Heya, jonnyblitz!

6. one thing about 24hpp
jd was touched upon, but new order was conspicuously absent from the proceedings... just mentioned in a passing by sort of manner (just an ambient mix of blue monday & a few pop ins here & there)

i thought it was a bit strange since they pretty much bankrolled factory

maybe bernard sumner didn't want to get involved

great film nonetheless

7. Good point. And I'm sure there were plenty of good New Order stories,
like the time Peter Hook passed out at an Adams Morgan bar in DC right before showtime (he showed up about three minutes into "In a Lonely Place").

I suppose the writers chose to boil it down to big characters, though, so focused on Wilson, Curtis, and Shaun Ryder at the expense of the broader story.
