A puppy showed up today. Oddly enough she was in my dog house?
I get home right after dark, the other dogs rush out to great me as usual but then they are REALLY interested in the dog house. I am thinking skunk or raccoon. I look inside and there she is. She can't be more than 3 months old and has not been eating regularly. I don't know if someone placed her in there or she found her own way from the road.
My three young dogs seem afraid of her, older girl seems to like her and Buddy is already trying to get her into her pack order. (growling at anything he doesn't approve of)
The cats are looking at her like "look what the cat dragged in". Anyways you guys deserve a picture for reading so much of my inane rambling.............

This animal WILL NOT be euthanized (aka bumped off). She will ideally find a good home after I have taken care of the spaying, shots & worming. Worst case scenario, she becomes dog #6 in the "WCross" household. Either way she is going to live a good long & happy life.

BTW- If interested and in the general vicinity of southern middle Tennessee please contact me. I will do all the Vet work and I will take her back if needed. She needs a good forever home.

8. I am kind of thinking someone may have put her there.
On the other hand, why would a pet dumper do that? I am in a rural area & live 500+ feet away from the one lane road. A lazy person would dump & run, a kind person would have found her a home. I guess it doesn't matter though, she is here now.

3. I would take that dog in a heartbeat...but my lease does not allow it
she is beautiful...and very cute. That is the kind of dog I would want....

Hopefully, you take her in ( I'm sure you have enough ) but at least she has a loving home?

Good luck with her!

10. Well, she was the one who showed up.
I just don't have it in me to send them to die if there is anything I can do to help them.
She is now napping on my lap. Off to the vet tommorow!

5. Hero of the day, Wcross. Good job.
I'm sure she found her way there, sought shelter in a good, dog-smelling place.

I swear to you, they know kindness. They just know where they can find a bunk and a meal.

9. She obviously loves you already.
You have a good heart, my friend. We have three dogs and three cats, and they are all getting up there in years, but they continue to live the good life.

What a sweetheart. I hope you find a great home for her, but I am glad to hear that either way, she will be cared for.

Here's a couple of ours. All rescued. (Even a purebred Pom!)

14. have you named her yet?
years ago a kitten showed up in our yard, had a collar on. None of the neighbors had a kitten that we knew of, we cheked, plus ran an ad in local paper.

I asked my late partner what we should name her and was told "We're NOT naming her anything, because if we name her she will stay"

I didn't name her anything, I named her "something", she stayed. Sadly I lost her to liver disease at the age of 8

My brother brought home a stray cat, adult, had it a day and noticed it was having problems peeing - so off to the animal clinic. He had to fill out a big long form, left the Pets Name line blank because he hadn't named it yet. Receptionist insisted he put in a name - he explained he's only had the cat for a day and hadn't decided on a name - but the receptionist was adamant

so my brother wrote in "BIG VET BILL"

the form and general intake chart was attached to a clipboard and placed in a rack. One of the vets came out and was looking over the rack, his eyes opened and he said very loudly "BIG VET BILL??? this one I have to see" lol

cat had urinary blockage, got treatment for that, plus worming, shots, earmite meds - ran a hefty amount since this was an emergency animal clinic, so the cat's name officially became BIG VET BILL

16. One Of Mine Showed Up On Our Porch
and was only about 6 weeks old. There is no way he could have climbed those porch steps himself and we sure didn't need a new dog at the time (already had the legal limit of 3). I even lined up a home for him but my son decided we had to keep him so we did. Now he is the only one of the originals left and we are so very thankful for him. We just recently added another stray as a companion for him.

She is beautiful. How could anyone look in those eyes and turn her away? Hope you find a good home for him. I would surely take him if I were anywhere near you.

Usually I try to find them a home, this one seems so comfortable around my dogs (and they seem ok with her) that she will more than likely stay.

25. That's almost how we got Jack
Someone left him in my car while I was teaching religious education on a very, very cold January night. He was so young that he could or wouldn't eat dry dog food. He eyeballed the oatmeal with milk I was giving the kids, so I gave him a bowl of that. He dove in like he was starving.

He's a big guy now. With him around, I never worry about a thing. He's better than a loaded shot gun, IMO.

26. I figured out what happened. When the bitey cat was really little,
Guinness used to pick her up and drag her off to his den on the stair landing. Clearly one of your dogs found the puppy and put it in the den to keep it safe.

Edited on Fri Nov-02-07 06:59 PM by judaspriestess
How funny, I just got done emailing the young lady who I got my kitten from a couple of weeks ago. She takes in animals and takes care of them until she can find them homes. I sent her an update to thank her for "setting" him up to be the loving baby that my lil Joaquin is. (pics coming soon)

And here you are doing the same..... This brings tears to my eyes. That lil rugrat who made her way to your home is one lucky lil girl and I'm sure she's gonna bring some joy to your life for as long as you have her.

Please keep us informed on her progress and thank you for what you are doing.

32. An update- she is no longer available for adoption.
She is going to be staying here with me. I have decided to name her Lucille (Lucy) after Lucille Ball. (My favorite funny lady from the past)
We went to the vet and she has a skin infection and an infection in her female parts. She is on antibiotics now. She will be spayed when she is a little older. We don't have a clue what she is or what size she will be fully grown. The vet did say she had a little cattle dog in her due to the tips of the paws being spotted.
In one day we have had real progress in house training her. She pooped on the puppy pads without any prodding yesterday. I got her to poop outdoors last night, she didn't poop in her crate last night and when she started her pre-poop sniffing around this morning she did it right at the front door.
She has not been more than three feet away from me since she arrived and seems to enjoy gnawing on my toes. She even was allowed to chew on a rawhide bone by the other dogs (they usually have issues with each other taking the rawhide that has been worked on).

38. She is sneaky about peeing & pee's A LOT!
It will seem like she is just sitting there, then she will move and a puddle is on the floor. She is peeing more often than the training websites say they should. It may be she is drinking too much water due to not having water for a while. I will ask the vet if she doesn't slow down on it.

40. It may be but she is hitting the water bowl pretty hard.
We are in a drought right now & I don't know how long she was wandering around before she found me. Her ribs were showing so it may have been quite a while. I think she is just drinking a lot because she had been deprived. I have another vet appointment later in the month so I will ask if it continues.
