OMG, a friend of mine WANTS to apply for my job...
:yoiks: I posted the job announcement to three professional listservs, and she contacted me about it. Her current job is actually a really good one, and she's been there less than a year. She's got 14 years in the profession, and three of them were in a hellish job very much like the one I'm leaving on Nov. 14. I asked her why she might want this particular job. and she said, "I'm bored and need a challenge." :wtf: Be careful what you wish for. She and I had a confidential talk about the good things and the bad things about this job, and I did not sugar-coat anything. (I also was not petty or vindictive---I told her the truth.) I gave her the lowdown about all the problems with this place and all the good things about it, and she said she didn't know if she wanted to pursue it. I left it open-ended and told her if she needed more info to let her know. The next day, she called me back and said she'd talked it over with her husband and he thought she should pursue it. (He's a good guy, but he's naive about a lot of things.)

I would hate to see her burned out in a year. Her personality is a lot like mine, but she's not as resilient as I am. I've seen her buckle under pressure before, and she would most certainly suffer under this pressure. I have told her this, but she's still determined to pursue it.

Two old adages come to mind.... 1) Be careful what you wish for...you just might get it. :( And 2) Don't say I didn't warn you. :(
