Favorite brand of jeans?
I've found, brand does matter. Some brands just have way higher quality, way better fit, and they're worth the extra. Sometimes a lot extra.
My top two are Olsen of Europe and NYDJ.

I can tell when other women are wearing Olsen jeans even before seeing the distinctive red label on the belt loop. They just have such an amazing fit, they look classy and do wonderful things for the legs. They're incredibly pricey, but they also last me about 4x longer than cheap, ugly jeans.

NYDJ (Not Your Daughters Jeans) have twice the stretch of normal jeans. They tuck in your tummy, they're soft as hell, and fit like a dream. Sadly, the only place I've found in my city that carries them is a plus size store, and I've shrunk down out of them. I'm still clinging to my size 12s (the smallest they carry) but I think I'll have to give them up and start ordering on the internet. Also, pricey.

What are your brands? Why do you like them?

1. I have 1 pair of Levi's, 2 pairs of Kenneth Cole...
...and about 12 pairs of DKNY Jeans. I don't know why, but they fit me better than any other. I also kinda like their style.

4. Hey, everyone is shaped a little differently
Some jeans that fit really well on one person look like crap on another.
But, in general, I've found some brands just have a better overall fit, especially when they offer (like Olsen) a handful of different fits in the same style :)

..36 x 32. Pretty standard. There's just something about DKNY Jeans.

2. Whatever I can find at the consignment store.
Last time I got two pairs of DKNY for $5, total. They were having a sale. :)

Anyway, they fit nicely. I would never spend more than $20 for jeans. If I can't find them at the consignment store or on clearance at Old Navy, I'm not buyin' em! :D

5. Wow.
The last time I spent $20 on jeans, they fell apart in about 2 months. I think they were from Old Navy.
Now I spend anywhere from $50-$180 on my jeans, depending on the sales I get.

You mentioned stretch in your OP, maybe that's why. I only buy 100% cotton jeans - hate stretch jeans! Very unflattering on me.

BEST pairs of jeans I have ever owned. They feel wonderful and wear very well. I do own some Wranglers and they are not bad jeans, but when everyting is clean I reach for the Levis first...

58. Another vote for Levi's.
After having kids & the subsequent change in proportions, they fit me like a glove (550.) Also, they have to be real denim...the stretch ones make me look like an old lady!

I also like Lucky Brand, but will only buy them on eBay. I refuse to pay Nordstrom's prices for jeans.

16. i haven't found that to be the case at all
it may depend on body type

i still have jeans from my high school days that wear fine and fit fine (they are not stylish but i can still weed the garden or go hiking in them) and i'm a few decades later, so it's obvious that cheap jeans last just as long if not much longer than overpriced ones

the ones that fit well but are completely hideous and out of style, i can use for hiking in some distant land and then i throw them away and use that room in the luggage for other stuff i've accumulated along the way

i have found brand loyalty to be without merit in the case of jeans, i have to try on each pair and see how it fits, and if it fits me grab it, even if it's a thrift store jean for $2 (and it usually is, since i am short, slim, with proportionately curvy hips for my size)

leggy young girls who look good in anything no doubt look terrific in $300 jeans too but i don't think it's the jeans making you look good, i think it's you making you look good -- a lot of people just feel better and have more self confidence if they're wearing more expensive clothing, so they see themselves in the mirror as more attractive -- actually, they look good anyway, but it's a mental thing

just my humble opinion but i find it a little sad that people splash out hundreds of dollars on a pair of jeans thinking it's an "investment" when i know from personal experience that cheap pairs have lasted me decades -- and the "investment" high fashion jeans will probably pass from fashion as far as style FASTER because the designer has to issue a new style every year

21. It isn't 'obvious' they last longer
Edited on Thu Nov-01-07 01:25 PM by GirlinContempt
Because I've had numerous and diverse pairs of jeans from numerous and diverse manufacturers that were inexpensive, and without fail they lost their shape, split, and just plain wore out fast.
I'm glad you've had good experiences with your 40 year old jeans, but that isn't proof positive they all last the same.

Brand loyalty is with merit, if that brand makes a really high quality product that lasts a long time. I know they look better, not because of the higher price tag, but because they do. And some jean styles are classic. My Olsen jeans I've had for four years now, and they aren't out of style, because they're a classic. I've had to re-buy the same style because of a change in size.

Classic clothing is an investment. I'll go cheap on some things, things I know I won't wear often, or will go out of style fast, but things like jeans, dress pants, and work staples I'm willing to shell out a lot of money for if they're proven high quality and long lasting. It is an investment, because they last and look good for years and years, instead of going to Zellers and replacing it with something cheap every few months.

I guess each persons experience is different. But your personal experience doesn't match up with mine, so I wouldn't jump the gun on the 'sad' comments. Not that it's surprising.

Although I have a mix of jeans. But I re-discovered my favorite pair (I put some weight back on, and they fit again). Old Navy button-fly jeans. Soooo comfy!!! And I've had them, hell, five, six years now? Maybe more?

The inseam is two inches too long, but I think I got them for like $5 or $7 on the clearance rack. They were a great buy!

Part of the problem I think though is that a lot of people aren't willing to pay the money for more locally made goods.
I do find my European clothes to be a of a higher quality. Most of the stuff is made in Turkey, Germany, Italy and sometimes France.

53. It seems women have a bigger problem with this.
And even then it depends.
I know my younger sister has no problems ever, but she's 5'6" and MAYBE 115lbs, with that perfectly proportioned shape you see in magazines (except no overlarge fake boobs). She can buy just about anything from a mall and it looks fab on her.
However, I know the pain of having trouble finding that good fit, when you find it, hold on to it! :)

of stretch in them ..I buy the ones in the petites dept because I have short legs and they fit very well.
