Wave pictures (the ones that turn out anyway) are mostly luck!

As to this picture...I'm not sure what it was. I took this in Berlin last summer. I was just walking around when I happened to look up, and there it was.

You can see me taking it partway up...

I appreciate your praise!

Where? My dad was born in a little don't-blink-or-you'll-miss-it town called Oil Trough. He then moved to Newark, where I lived when I was in 1st grade (I had the same teacher my dad had). Most of my dad's immediate relatives have passed away, but my dad's brother Jimmy still lives there.

I think CMW did some kind of HDR post-work on the photo, which I took with my cell phone. But the sky really was very ominous. No hiding for me, though: I was raised in Oklahoma (tornado alley).

21. what is your little village?
Edited on Thu Nov-01-07 01:07 PM by kwassa
My wife did a year of study in Lausanne, many years ago.

We visited her best friend in Bern a few years back, and took the train over to Lausanne for the day. I remember all the little villages along the shore of Lake Geneva.

We later took the TGV to Paris on that trip.

edit to add: my Lausanne pictures suck, because it was a hot and very hazy summer day, and we couldn't see far across the lake.

22. Hi, kwassa.
The village is where we live: in the Italian-speaking, southernmost canton, Ticino. Our village is about 100 meters above Lago Maggiore. The Lausanne photo is from business travel to Geneva and Lausanne this past May. I speak very little French, so I made it a short trip. I love the French part of the country, but the weather was stormy those two days, hence the ominous scene from my hotel window. :P

and damn, I do wish your daughter's picture was larger. That looks amazing. I think, maybe, one could accidentally drop a camera in Seattle, have it accidentally start snapping shots, and you'd still wind up with gorgeous images. Seattle is just wonderful...and, sadly, 3,200 miles away from me. Boo.

:)

Wonderful. I especially like the row of bird houses surrounded by Fall foliage. As you can see from my OP, I'm a sucker for Autumn leaves. One of the best parts about living in New England.

Over the eight weeks of October and November, we're blessed with the chance to watch this vast masterwork of a mural get painted in slow motion, day by day and leaf by leaf, on a canvas that's all around you for miles in every direction...under the bluest skies anywhere on Earth.

Yeah. October is the art gallery for trees. :)

43. Wow! That is cool!
I watched Moms(or dads) all summer. The little one aimlessly following the parent and repeating a squawk, tweet, or chirp. Very cool to watch them mimic the adult.

This one was out of the nest flying already. It flew into my house cause all my stuff is usually open. When I was trying to catch it under the bed I heard similar chirps outside. I got bird and went out there. It was a sibling looking for him. I snapped this pic right before I heard the adult chirp and they flew off.

49. It's a Gold Finch nest
that some Cow Birds have laid their eggs in. Once the eggs are laid the Cow Birds are gone and their parenting is done. When the Cow Birds hatch they have the instinct to push the other birds out of the nest. The Finch never figures it out and runs herself ragged feeding the much larger birds.

This is her on the nest with no clue.

68. My dear DemReadingDU...
You need to use a photo hosting site, such as PhotoBucket.

First it will direct you to Browse...

And then you will Open...

And finally, you will upload...

Then you will be able to post your pictures!

Good luck...

:hi:
