Halloween protocol - door answering

So after answering the door a few times, and trying out different methods, I'm curious what's the best approach: hand the kids what you want to give them, or just let them take what they want from the bowl?

I find when I hand it out, I give them huge handfuls, but when they are given the option, they only take one or two things (and hey, I need to get rid of this stuff tonight!)
