Baby Alpaca Beheaded Near Delavan

DELAVAN, Wis. -- Walworth County sheriff's investigators said they have few leads in a case of animal cruelty.

Someone beheaded a baby alpaca at a farm north of Delavan.

When Tana Ward arrived home at WillowTan Farm several weeks ago, she noticed her 5-day-old Arianne was missing. She later found the alpaca's body in the pasture, but the head had been severed.

Someone armed with a small-caliber gun shot and killed 15 goats early Tuesday that were part of a herd hired to graze on fire-hazardous underbrush and weeds in the Oakland hills, police said.

At about 12:30 a.m., residents reported hearing shots fired above Greenly Drive west of Interstate 580. Police didn't find anything, but at 8 a.m., a jogger flagged down an animal control officer, saying there were dead goats in a portable corral in the hills of the King Estates Recreation Area, said Oakland police Sgt. Dave Cronin of the Oakland Animal Shelter.

Twelve of the 15 dead goats were found in a corner of the pen. The other three had apparently been dragged out of the enclosed area by wild animals -- coyotes perhaps -- and partly eaten, Cronin said.
