i run across lots of 20 somethings in my day to day
people who were anywhere from 11 - 14 ten years ago.

naturally, this was the generation that didn't benefit from stern discipline FROM EVERY FUCKING ADULT IN THEIR LIFE. you know, the columbine generation. the inside the house generation. the kids who never played outside. who were raised on video games and cable teevee and touchy feely psychobabble theories of development that don't take into account good old fashioned grit, scars, and toughness.

no, this was the generation that was coddled, taught about their feelings, told how unique and special they are.

and you know what? these are some of the most self-centered, wise ass, sarcastic, mean people, who have virtually no respect that i run across.

i can think of several right now who would have benefited from a few good old fashioned ass whippings.

NOW, AS A QUALIFICATION, NOT EVERY TWENTYSOMETHING IS LIKE THIS. I REPEAT, ***QUALIFICATION TIME KIDS*** I'M SPEAKING MORE OF TRENDS THAN INDIVIDUAL PEOPLE. DING DING DING!!!!11111

2. i asked this guy (very young) if i could share the ashtray
you know, the hipsterish "too cool for school" type. and he snapped at me like he was deigning to speak at me, and abruptly let me know, "like, OMIGOD, i'm not even using it anyway, SIGGGHHHH"

3. Wow.
Clearly he doesn't recognize common courtesy when he sees it.

I don't think that is just the latest generation though. I think most members of every generation are horribly rude until sometime in their thirties.

4. In rural areas in America, this trend is only now becoming a
Problem.

Living in Marin County for the last twenty years, UGH!

You'd hear the new age crowd, "Now little Ezekial, Mommie DID see you pour gasoline on the kitty and upset her (No need to let little Zeke know that the kitty died - it might freak him out)

And Mommie knows you are sorry, But I know you'll avoid doing bad things like that with the new kitty, won't you?"

We had a neighbor whose six year old would shriek from 7:45 Am every fifteen minutes until 7Pm. A blood curdling, gawd awful SHRIEK that would set your hair on end. After months of this, I finally went and talked to the mother. Like maybe she could give the kid some time outs or something.

"But it is a learning disability," cooed the young mom. "It isn't her fault that she is disabled."

I left there thinking - "The kid's only disability is You, Madam"

One day, after an especially bad round of shrieking, I stood on my porch and shrieked at the top of my lungs for a good ten minutes. Thought my lungs woul dcollapse I shrieked so hard.

I heard the door to their house shut firmly. And I NEVER heard the kid shriek again.
