Don Henley is a joke
so my friend makes me listen to new Eagles CD. Henley's singing about corporate greed and what-not throughout. I might get behind his lyrics and respect the guy - except the band is selling the album exclusively through WAL-MART.

Maybe it's just me, but I think you lose and cred on the subject immediately when you do that.

2. "Out on the road today, I saw a Deadhead sticker on a Cadillac"
a little voice inside my head sadid, "Don't look back, you can never look back"...

3. One way of getting to the masses
No tool is as great as using your enemy's momentum against them.

I'm happy to forgive if it means the message gets to more people.

5. I find this sadly ironic
I own the entire Eagles catalog but I'm not buying anything from Wal fucking Mart

I heard Henley defend this by citing all the "good" Wal Mart does
"You would have thought we made a deal with the devil. We caught plenty of flak. Some of my environmental friends are a little upset because we made this deal. But on the other hand, I have a direct line now to the CEO of Wal-Mart.
"We're certainly making our feelings known in terms of ecological stewardship and some of the practices of big business that are undesirable and wasteful."

Of course, you can buy it through the Eagles website instead of TheWall.

13. So, in other words Henley is trying to work the system within
Seems like a good idea to me. Perhaps Henley will make Mr. Wally realize that the employees should be treated better. Maybe get him to offer them better benefits. Perhaps he can get Mr. Wally to acknowledge that China slave labor needs to be addressed.

I think that maybe opening up a dialog would be beneficial in the long run. I will not dis someone who works for change.
And especially someone who donates $635,560 Democratic party.

17. Because one musician is going to change the face of capitalism.
Excuse my cynicism but come on, you really think he's gonna make that big of a difference?

20. I have no idea if he will make that big of difference, I'm not a soothsayer
Getting a dialog started to get someone to listen, is a start.

Ralph Nader was able to have an impact on industry. Maybe Henley can accomplish the same objective. I'll wait and see.

Because one musician is going to change the face of capitalism.

Who knows?

Maybe Mr. Wally will come to a better understanding of what his company needs to do to correct their problems.

6. I agree with you. The cheese has done slipped off his cracker!
How desperate are he and the rest of the Eagles that they would even consider entering into a contract with Wal-Mart? They'll never get another dime of my money.

7. Don Henley is NOT a joke
He is an environmentalist and has other liberals causes. He's trying to save Caddo Lake in Texas, which is dying because of a plant that is taking over the lake.

Do you have a link to the Eagles only selling exclusively through Wallyworld??

I saw a thread on DU the other day talking about the Eagles new release and that is was only being sold through Wallyworld. However, I believe someone mentioned the Eagles were selling it through their website.

He also donates a lot of money to the Democratic Party, check it out for yourself.

$8,500 Republican
$635,560 Democrat
$4,000 Independent
$76,125 special interest
total: $724,185

14. Funny how people here will attack over the smallest things.
With the amount of money Henley donates to good causes and with the sells of their album he'll have more to donate. I just can not understand the conflict

I posted up thread about on the benefits of getting within the walls of Wally World. It could turn out to be a positive thing.

10. "Oh Don...you're the best...the absolute best!"...
is what he demanded of the prostitutes he employed. Read "You'll Never Make Love In This Town Again" for an astonishing, but believable, portrait of Henley in all of his alcohol-sweating glory.

15. we'd all look stupid if judged by what we do in bed
what's the option, looking like a pervert or looking like a cliche? there is nothing new that two (or more) monkeys can do and you can twist any of it to look sordid if you're so inclined

16. But all of the working girls interviewed said that Henley was a pig...
while Glen Frey was a gentleman. I wonder if Frey needles him about that during all of those reunion tours?

18. Yeah, I'm sure that's a point of pride with Frey...
...I read that book too, when I was living in Hollywood and reporting on the "entertainment industry," so I know enough to know it's largely accurate. Lost a lotta respect for Don after that. IMO, donating $750,000 to good causes when you've got $200 million (probaly MUCH more) in the bank smacks of good ol' guilt.

19. Wal-Mart, K-Mart, Peaches, Tower, TG&Y...what's the difference?

What do you want Mr. Henley to do; stand on a street corner and sell his music? The idea is to sell as many albums as possible. Wal-Mart provides the perfect vehicle for that end. I don't see where doing so erases any "cred" he may have. Actually, the joke is on Wal Mart.
