Got (true) ghost stories? Whip 'em out!
Unless I totally missed it, we haven't had a good ghost story thread lately.

1. I think lildreamer was deciding when to post hers.
Give her a nudge, maybe she'll get a thread up with links to past stories!

3. I'm always ready for a good ghost story
Hope she brings some updates on hers.

I have never seen a ghost, but when my dad was young, an old ambulance fan went off with no explanation. And he felt a cold spot in his late father's house. Not major, but I thought I'd add them.

5. I have one that will put chills down your spine.
A couple of years ago my grandmother died. We went over to Illinois a week before she died to say good bye while she could still somewhat comprehend what was going on. A week later my mom called and said that it would be soon so my wife and I packed up and headed over. We got there about 6pm and by this time most of the kids had been there or called. She had 14 total children and out of the 14, 13 had either called or was at the house, and 1 refused to call or show up.

During the week between our visit and her death I had a dream that she was in. She said that she was ready to go, but she was worried about one of her sons, he is a bit on the slow side, and wanted to be sure he would be taken care of. I passed this on to my mom and she told me that 2 of her sisters had the same dream and they told her that he would be looked after.

Ok, now back to the day she died. As I said we got there about 6pm and all but 1 of her kids had either called or was there and about 8pm her minister came over and all of us went into her room and for about 35-45 mins sang her favorite hymns and prayed for her.

About 30 mins into this there was a LOUD crack, It made everybody jump, I thought I had bumped the rocker against the wall but that wasnt it. We finished up and we all walked out of the room, my uncle, myself, and a couple of cousins went back to the kitchen to finish our card game which was about 20 feet from her room. By the time we got there, my mom came out and said its time, so we all went back in and was with her as she took her final breaths. After she died, we all left the room and basically decompressed from the past week. In the living room my uncles dog was staring at the bedroom, uttering a low growl and her hair was on end. She would run to the doorway, stop, whine, and go back to her chair. We all thought that was strange but just kinda blew it off. My mom went back into the room and called us all back in, on the dresser was a plant called a christmas cactus, it had always bloomed RED with many blooms on it. This time it had a total of 14 blooms, all pure white, with 1 on the floor. See above about the kids, also, outside her bedroom a single red rose was in full bloom, this was bout 9pm and in November. Roses are not in bloom at this time in Illinois.

You explain it, because we have no explanation for it other than a message from her as she crossed over.

I guess its not really a ghost story, but more of a retelling of an experience I had.

11. It's strange you mentioned that about the dog...

When I was married to my first husband about a million years ago, we got a call one day from the Northampton, MA police. My mother in-law had been found dead in her home at the bottom of the cellar stairs. Apparently, they said, she fell. She had been alone in the house for five days. Anyway, there was a terrible snow storm that day so we only got there about four hours later. By then, the body was gone and the blood had been cleaned up and the floor sanitized. Our dog, a gentle giant, absolutely loved her, and vice versa. When he got into the house he ran to the closed cellar door and began growling and barking and throwing himself against it. We finally had to restrain him because he was hurting himself. After that, the cellar door remained closed and he growled whenever he passed it, even months later. Dogs must have a sense of something, but I never understood what made him so angry.

9. Here's one I posted
once before:

When I was eight years old, I had a very bad case of the measles. They had spread inside my throat and it was very painful to swallow and I had become dehydrated and had a very high fever. A doctor came to our house and told me that I had to force myself to drink liquids or he would come the next day and take me to the hospital and put a needle in my arm to get liquids into me. I think he said this because he knew I hated needles and might drink more to avoid that.

Later that evening I was in my bed when I suddenly saw spiders everywhere. On the ceiling, the walls, and my bed. I lifted my head and saw them on my pillow and freaked out. I started screaming hysterically and my mother sent my brother to a neighbors house to get a nurse who lived there. This woman told my mother to move me into the living room and put me on the couch to see if that would calm me down. It worked--no spiders.

My brother was watching T.V. and I suddenly saw toy soldiers marching back and forth on the living room floor. Then I saw posters of horses hanging from the ceiling. I got sleepy and as I feel asleep I saw the posters go slowly up though the ceiling.

Sometime that night I woke up. The house was dark except for the light that was over the kitchen sink. I could see into the kitchen and sitting in a chair was a woman I had never seen before. She looked at me as though she felt so sorry for me. She had long straight brown hair, she looked to be in her 40's, she wore a plain brown dress, and she was in her bare feet. I kept looking at her expecting her to say something---but she never spoke. I started to feel sleepy and was closing my eyes when she shook her head at me very sharply. I perked up expecting her to speak--but she didn't. Time went by and I felt sleepy again, and again she shook her head--so I stayed awake, waiting for her to speak and at least tell me who she was.

Then, after several hours, I looked toward the window and could see the sun shining through the curtains. I got sleepy again-- I looked at the woman-- she didn't shake her head and I fell asleep. So, who was she? A ghost, an angel, or a hallucination because of my high fever and dehydration? Would a hallucination last that long?

10. I got quite a few, but will limit my response
I am one of those people who wants to believe in ghosts (because so many have seen them) but am still skeptical. That does not mean weird things have not occurred to me.

After hearing and reading a lot online about EVP's I finally decided to see what I could record (and I swear, one of these days soon I am unpacking my server and getting my data off it and posting it here, just not a top priority right now).

My wife and I both went to a cemetery close by. Our initial goal was to record and then perfect how we examine tapes, mask out sounds, etc and so on. We did not expect anything (though you always hope).

I had no idea how many things I never really 'heard' - especially when you amplify and listen closely. Those birds, planes, cars, dogs in the background barking, feet crunching the grass, etc.

What I learned too is what are normal noises, and what are not. And that is where I got my first EVP.

It was relatively quiet on some spots of the tape and I heard something that didn't sound like anything else at all on the tape (digital not real tape). So I amplified it, masked out certain sounds, and I heard a male voice say 'Go Away'.

Now I wasn't thinking so poorly of people who posted evp's online. Over the months we collected several more, though many times we got zilch when we went out. The last one I got was weird.

I was at greenlawn cemetery and recording in front of a well known grave. A kid (I got his pic on the server as well) sitting is basically what the stone was (like the angel statues, 3d statue not a carving). Rumored to be haunted people often left things there for the boy - toy fire engines, pennies, some put hats on his head, etc.

I stood there asking questions and then waiting. Finally I turned around and went across the small road and commented on the tree (I comment to keep track of where I am on the tape). On playback I heard 'Behind you'.

Will see what I can dig up this weekend if we don't go out of town, I have one that I still cannot make out fully but is certainly nothing human (was in an abandoned house, and it is damned eerie - sounds to me like 'we got youuuuu' and then a woman going 'unh').
