How come that doesn't happen anymore? It used to be pretty common well into the 1970's.

Your team wins, and the fans storm the field.

6. My first recollection of the New Era was 1984
Game 5 in Detroit. In the top of the ninth there were cops all around the field. Must've been a hundred of 'em.

9. Lawsuits no doubt. And a woman was killed in Boston in 04.

The cops tried to break up some rowdy fans when the Sox came back to beat the Yankees in the AL finals and this innocent bystander was killed with a rubber bullet fired by the cops.

Also the management wants the winning team to enjoy the moment with their families, which is hard to do with thousands of fans running all over the place.

10. But that wasn't at the stadium...
I assure you, if you want to see the fans storm the field, let the Sox win the Series at Fenway some year, instead of on the road!

11. Can't prove this , but I have a pretty clear recollection
of the Frank Rizzo-led Philadelphia police ringing the field after the Phillies won; has to be 1980 I guess? I remember watching and thinking what fascist bullshit that was; and correctly predicting that this would quickly become the norm everywhere. May have been before '80, maybe the Phillies just winning the division sometime in the 70's...gotta be a Phillies fan here who can provide more info....

12. It would have probably happened at Fenway
but even more so if it had been a 7th game.
