Geez, that Beowulf movie's gonna stink.
I mean, yeah, that should be obvious.

But judging from the commercial, it's a complete rip-off of 300, and apparently it's targeting the Snakes on a Plane audience.

And it's starring Angelina Jolie as that hot, hot love interest- Grendel's mom.

1. Is it animated?
I only saw one half of one commercial... but it seemed like it was.

2. Yeah, same way 300 was animated.
They use real actors in a sort of computer generated rotoscoping.

3. The backgrounds in 300 were animated, the people were live-action
this is fully animated, with cgi people as well

I'll take a half-naked cgi Angelina over no half-naked Angelina

5. No, the people in 300 were cgi... assisted.
That's why they're regular people in one scene, Hulk Hogan in the next.

7. Cool...
I thought the people were animated.

Good to know my eyes aren't *that* bad yet.

4. Just curious - how was the recent Beowulf with Gerard Butler?
Edited on Wed Oct-24-07 04:02 PM by NewJeffCT
If you saw it. I rented it, but only saw the first few minutes when I fell asleep from exhaustion... and, then I had to return the movie.

And, the cast seems terrific - Anthony Hopkins, Robin Wright Penn, Jolie...

25. Beowulf with Gerard Butler
I thought...was rather boorish. I bought it about a month ago, and on a scale of 1-10, 10 being the best, 5 being average, and 1 being sucks big time, I give it a 6....

I did like Stellen Skarsgaard though....

9. Nice post, Grendel.
Yeah, I have a sneaking suspicion that this movie's gonna exude great towers of suckitude.

10. I was excited when I saw the poster, but when I saw the commercial
I had to wonder what Beowulf they read, 'cause it sure didn't resemble the story I remember. It's gonna be suckalicious - "suck" for the overall suckiness, but "-alicious" for the inappropriately hot Grendel-mama...

11. It looks like one long videogame cutscene
and not a very well-animated one, at that. It doesn't look as if the mouth movements match the dialog all that well and the people seem to move like marionettes.

15. Anyone know who is the director?
Just curious. Is it a literal translation of the classic, or a post-modernish allegorical re-telling?

23. Robert Zemeckis
I'm hesitant to start hating now. Zemeckis has made some of my favorite movies of all time.

16. Based on the commercial
it doesn't seem much like the Old English epic Beowulf. Looks like they've sexed it up and dumbed it down.

17. It's probably going to be like Troy in the sense
that it will have little to do with the actual story.

26. I'm so glad I'm not teaching anymore.
I had to do Beowulf one year, and I can just imagine all the stupid papers the teachers will be seeing that are based on this movie and not the actual piece. Ugh.
