5. Some people here are rooting for the
*gasp* Red Sox.

I like the Sox too, when they're playing the Yankees.

6. Agreed, and...
It'll hurt the Sox for games 3-5.

Bench Youklis, or bench Papi? Someone has to play first base.

Sucks.

I've been the lone voice among my Sox friends who makes the heretical argument: David Ortiz cannot ever be considered for MVP honors. No DH deserves consideration. They only play half the game.

7. I agree with that completely. I think they should do away with the DH, personally.

16. Depends on the DH. Yaz was phenomenal during his DH years.

22. Moreso than Ortiz?
Edited on Wed Oct-24-07 03:43 PM by WilliamPitt
Yaz won the Triple Crown playing the outfield. He still defines excellence for full-time players.

But I think Papi has better numbers, and has been more clutch, as a DH than Yaz was in the same spot. Yaz was a great DH, but Papi has been intergalactic.

Neither deserve MVP honors as DHs, imho.

26. Can't compare the two.
Yaz was a DH in the twilight of his career. Ortiz is barely out of the box. Ortiz is great, but not MVP worthy. That's why I said that it depends on the DH. George Brett is another good example, IIRC, although as a Royal which takes him down 7 or 8 notches.

9. You're a fucking neanderthal. Specialization is the hallmark of an advanced society.
Asking a pitcher to bat is like forcing a paraplegic to drink bleach-and-vodka martinis. What kind of sick fuck are you?

12. i'm on to you, and i'm alerting
that kind of talk might fly at the site-that-must-not-be-named, but we believe in democracy and freedom and the right, nay, the obligation of pitchers to pick up the bat, take their three strikes like men, and sit down.

can't hit for shit get up to the plate?

I don't like the DH rule, but I don't think pitchers should hit.

23. So let's say a left handed pitcher is up
but he bats right (or vice-versa). Easy way to remove him from the game with a little arm soreness...*plunk*

28. How about shortstops who can't hit?
Or catchers who can't run?
Or outfielders who can't throw?

Should we have designated hitters, runners and throwers for position players too? And if not, why not?
