Red Sox Are NOT Morally Superior to the Yankees
First full disclosure. I am a Yankees fan, and congrats to the Red Sox on their success. However, can we cut the crap about how the Yankees are the "Evil Empire" and how the Red Sox are somehow morally superior??

First of all, calling a baseball team "evil" is silly and stupid. It makes you sound like Bush with his Access of Evil speech. The Yankees are a big sports business, and they spend a lot on their team because they generate a ton of revenue. If that $200 million payroll didn't go to the players, it would wind up in the pockets of extremely wealthy owners. It's not like the general public would ever see the money, and as a Yankees fan, I can tell you that a large payroll does not translate into championships. In fact, it's just the opposite. There have been a lot of players taking advantage of the Yankees spending without putting forth the effort.

Second, the Red Sox recent success is because they employ the EXACT SAME business tactics that the Yankees use to build their team. Notably, they buy their players. On the Red Sox 2004 championship team, there was only ONE HOMEGROWN every day player, Trot Nixon. Everyone else was either a free agent acquisition or acquired through a trade.

This past off-season, the Red Sox out bid every team in MLB, $51 million, for the rights to negotiate with Dice-K, the second best starter on the team. The $51 million is equivalent to the entire payroll of the Colorado Rockies, which is $54 million. Also, the Red Sox bid was $16 million more than any other team in MLB. The Mets were 2nd at $35 million. So, don't say that the Yankees made them bid that much.

Red Sox fans sound more and more like the DLC every day. You do the EXACT same thing that the Yankees do, yet you want to appear as morally superior to the Yankees at the same time. You cannot have it both ways. The Red Sox are winning championships because they employ the exact same tactics as the Yankees to achieve their success. So, if the Yankees are evil, then you are evil as well.

Besides, the Yankees have farty pants (except Clemens, who rules).

5. Heh, heh, heh...but 'Evil Empire' is FUN!
C'mon, Lucchino dubbing the Yankees the "Evil Empire" was a stroke of genius, not to mention hysterically funny. It sums up the feelings of jealously and frustration engendered by years of coming in second to the Yankees and boils those feelings down into one memorable, pithy little humorous phrase.

Perfect really.

Sure my beloved Sox have become just another bloated mega-spending team (in an effort to compete with the Evil Empire I might add) but as you pointed out about the Yankees, they have the revenue to spend so why not spend it on players and field the best, most entertaining team they can. (shrug)

The Sox are in no way "morally superior" to the Yankees, but they are to me at least, the good guys and your guy are, well, your guys are...

(wait for it)...

...evil.

Tip o' the Red Sox cap to ya and here's hoping you enjoy the World Series.

6. I think that the evil empire tag originated before John Henry et al.
when the Yanks were kicking our butts for all those years. And now John Henry, Larry Lucchino, and Theo Epstein are doing the things that make us competitive with the huge salaries of the Yankees. Their other option was to keep things status quo and allow the Yankees to win the division every year. I can't tell you, from a Red Sox fan perspective, how refreshing it is to have a competitive team after all these years.

The Red Sox salaries are still less than 75% of the Yankees', even with Daisuke. I think we are just a little bit better at building our team. If the Yankees cut out that $29M salary for Mr. April and spread it around to some other good players they may get a World Series ring some time this century.

75. Um, Uber Duer, WillPitt, I Never, Not Once, Ever Claimed Moral Superiority
Post examples all you want. I never said that my teams were morally superior. The moral sanctimony is the province of the New England fan who cannot be satisfied with winning. No, they need to project a moral superiority element into it.

Are you gonna post examples of how you left DU as well?

81. I'm Glad You're So Entertained
First, I congratulate the Red Sox, and you call me a Cry Baby?

Then, I lay out an argument about how the Red Sox are just like the Yankees, and to their credit, some Red Sox fans on this thread agreed with my take.

Then, you re-post some of my earlier posts on various topics for no apparent reason.

Next, you call me a hypocrite for some reason that I don't truly understand.

My only point on this thread is that the Red Sox fans love to claim some sort of "moral superiority" to the Yankees by calling the Yankees, "Evil". Yet, the Red Sox are using the exact same blueprint for building their championship teams that the Yankees used.

That's all I said.

Now, if you want to continue to attack me, then go right ahead. You're real good at this, and with each attack, you prove my original point.
