Massively Favored Red Sox Juggernaut To Play Scrappy Underdog Rockies
Tonight begins the World Series, when the massively favored Boston juggernaut, with its gigantic $143 million payroll and superstar line-up takes on the upstart, scrappy Colorado Rockies. The Red Sox, who have led their division all year and whose huge payroll - second only behind the Yankees - bought them baseball's best record for the year is favored to trample all over the underdogs, who made it into the playoffs only after a magical late-season run. Their $54 million payroll - the sixth LOWEST in the league - has been supplemented by pure grit and determination: their 22 of 23 run to close the season and open the playoffs will be the stuff of sports legend, even if they are swept by the colossal team assembled in Boston for nearly three times the cash. Could the underdogs fulfill the impossible dream of upending the massive favorites? Will there be a Miracle on the Diamond this year? Only time will tell.

The only thing that's for sure is that the Red Sox Nation doesn't get to pretend to be the scrappy underdog this time around. The persona of the Red Sox Nation must shift. They are the bullies in the schoolyard now, the swaggering giants with squared jaws, the sandkickers, the Casey's at the Bat. Let's see how they handle their heavily favored team.

1. What......there's a World Series?
Here in New England they've already started the coronation.

I would love nothing better than to see the Rockies restore some necessary humility to "Red Sox Nation".

As I'm on record on these boards noting on many occasions. In fact, I even kinda hope Boston wins, since the only thing that soickens me more than the False Victim Complex of the Red Sox Nation is a baseball team named after an entire state.

Nice assumption, though. Typical of Nation "ressentiment."

I'm just like most people: sooooooo sick of the Red Sox Nation False Victim Complex. You wanna root for the underdog, I have a team that plays down Tampa way you might be interested in, Nation!

:-)

5. You are the bullies, the big favorites
It's a welcome relief not to have to listen to the Nation weeping about its poor underdog status, in any case.
