Anybody else still waffling on Al Gore?
And before anyone starts screaming "He's not running, get over it", believe me, I pretty much gave up on him in mid-Sept. I figured it was too late for him to get in. Now I'm not so sure (see below). Either way, here's my real question:

Why is Gore not telling the DraftGore folks "Don't waste your time, I'm not interested" (like he clearly did in 2002)?

As several have pointed out, he's not a cruel man. So one might conclude he's interested. Or at least "still thinking about it" (and in the meantime, wisely not spending any campaign funds)

Why doesn't he tell them to pack their things and go home, if he's not at least thinking about it? Doesn't make sense.

1. I'm still waiting
if he doesn't run, then I'm supporting Kucinich or Edwards.

2. I'm losing hope he'll run
I guess I'll be staying home on that Tuesday next November. Call me a bad American, but I cannot hold my nose and vote for the lesser of two evils or the evil of two lessers.

4. My hope-meter has been going up and down since Sept
Esp. now that Nov 1 (the deadline for a few primary ballots) is next Thursday.

It's odd though, don't you think, that he hasn't said "Don't bother" to the DraftGore people, like he did in 2002?

6. Waffles, pancakes, crepes...
Any breakfast Al wants...to get him to run! :)

I think however the answer is in the movie; he brought up the issue from within Washington and hit a brick wall. OUTSIDE the system he has raised awareness, made a difference and garnered acclaim as a fringe benefit. By doing the slide shows as the "former next president" he has achieved his greatest success...

Why go back into the game when, for him, he is seeing change by being outside it?

7. I don't think anyone would listen if he said, "Don't waste your time."
Things have changed since the last election - the entire world knows who he is and what he stands for while then, it was only people who paid attention.

I don't know what's going on in his head but I sure wish he would run.

Waiting for the GoreCult to turn on him like a pack of rabid jackals when he never even acknowledges them.

9. He's not telling us to stand down...
...because there aren't enough people clamoring for his candidacy.

17. Hadn't thought of that angle
Were more people clamoring in 2002 than there are now? Seemed more like sort of an expectation, that he would want to show the Chimp who really won in 2000 or something. I don't remember as big a grassroots movement. At least I don't remember the movement getting some headlines like they are now.

25. Two ways to read my last post:
I didn't intend to make Gore sound hungry for support. I was actually thinking that there's just not enough out there to warrant his drawing attention to himself again in the matter of running.

10. 99% sure he is not running
There are deadlines about to be passed and hes scheduled to speak at a Conference in Spain in February next year (yes in the heart of the primary vote season).

11. Not waffling.
I genuinely like him and respect him for the work he has done, but I long ago accepted the fact that he's not going to run this time. And I'm fine with that. (obviously...points to sig line)

I do, however, wish that he would endorse a candidate. That would serve two purposes... 1) act as a sure sign that he's not interested and 2) give his supporters a place to start as they think about where their vote will go.

15. Well it's not really a "fact" until he himself rules it out
So far he's remained coy.

18. Perhaps,
but there are a lot of primary deadlines on November 1st, it's about to become fact, whether he remains coy or not.

13. Waffling about what?
If Gore runs, I'll support him. If he doesn't run, I'll support the eventual Democratic nominee after they win the nomination.

No waffling on my part that I can see.

14. No no, not waffling about *support*
Waffling about if you think he might still run, vs. giving up that he will.

If he were to run, I'd support him 100%, time and money.

that he's not gonna run. Too bad, but it seems like that's the deal. If he does jump in, I'll immediately find out how I can help.

I'm not a fan of any of the current candidates. I won't waste any money or time on who gets the nomination. I will vote for them, that is all I will do. I would work my ass off for Gore.

I think he's waiting to see if Hillary starts to stumble and none of her challengers takes a significant lead.

27. I just put a Draft Gore sticker on my car.
I have never put any kind of sticker on my car before, because there are, as we all know, a certain number of lunatics out
there in the general population who will find just about anything a reason to act in one appalling way or another.
So...there...my comittment even includes the health and welfare of my car (to say nothing of me in said car.)
